What does GR-6V do that a regular press wash doesn’t?

A press wash is designed for on-press color changes — applied directly to the screen while it’s on the press, wiped off, and discarded. GR-6V is an ink degradent designed for the reclaim room. It works in recirculating systems and dip tanks where the same solution processes many screens before being filtered or replaced. It also protects fabric from deep staining and doubles as a mild stain remover for ghost images — capabilities a press wash doesn’t offer.

Can GR-6V be used in an automatic reclaim machine?

Yes — one of GR-6V’s primary use cases is automatic screen reclaiming machines. Its non-corrosive chemistry is safe for machine components including pumps, lines, and spray heads. It can recirculate continuously through the machine until the solution is too heavily soiled with ink solids, then be filtered and reused.

How does the filtration and reuse process work?

As GR-6V recirculates, it picks up dissolved and suspended ink solids from screens. When the solution becomes visibly saturated — dark with pigment and reduced in cleaning effectiveness — it can be passed through a filtration system to remove the suspended solids. The filtered solution retains its solvency and can be returned to service. Check with your local sanitation district about requirements for disposing of filtered solids and spent solution.

What inks does GR-6V remove?

GR-6V is highly effective on plastisol, multipurpose (solvent-based), poster, UV, and vinyl inks. CCI also specifically notes it works especially well on tough inks: water-base, vinyl, epoxy, and enamels — the inks that bond most aggressively to mesh and cause the most persistent ghost staining.

Can GR-6V replace a dedicated haze remover?

For lighter ghost images and plastisol haze, GR-6V can function as a mild stain remover: apply to both sides of the reclaimed screen, scrub, dwell minimum 3 minutes, and high-pressure rinse. For stubborn or multiple deep ghost images, a dedicated haze remover like CCI Re-Stor or LSR-30 will outperform GR-6V. The upside: using GR-6V during the ink removal step actively prevents the deep staining that causes severe ghost images, so less haze remover chemistry is needed downstream.

Why is the high flash point important?

Flash point is the temperature at which a liquid can ignite if exposed to an ignition source. Many traditional solvent-based screen washes have low flash points, which is a real safety concern in screen printing shops that run flash cure dryers, conveyor ovens, and other heat sources. GR-6V’s high flash point means it is significantly safer to store and use in proximity to this equipment — a meaningful advantage over solvent-based alternatives.

Are there any hazmat shipping fees?

No. GR-6V is non-hazardous and non-corrosive. All sizes — quart, gallon, and 5-gallon pail — ship standard with no additional hazmat fees. This is a meaningful cost difference compared to CCI’s haze removers (Re-Stor, LSR-30), which carry a $58 UPS hazmat fee per box on gallon+ sizes.

Which way should I rinse the screen?

Always rinse from the bottom of the screen upward. Starting at the bottom prevents dissolved ink from washing back down into areas of the mesh that have already been cleaned. River City Supply specifically notes this as a best practice: pressure wash bottom to top on both sides.
