Silicone ink is built for performance — extreme stretch, rock-solid adhesion to synthetics, waterproof wash durability. But that same high-solids body can print heavy: it drags, fills in fine lines, chokes fine mesh, and leaves a thick hand. Matsui Yama Reducer (SI0332) is the viscosity & flow modifier that fixes it. Blend in 1%–5% and the ink flows smoother, shears cleanly through the screen, holds crisp detail and halftones, and prints through higher mesh — all while keeping the stretch, opacity and durability that made you choose silicone in the first place.

How to Use Yama Reducer

1 · Stir first

Stir the ink thoroughly before adding anything, so you’re judging the ink’s true body.

2 · Add 1–5%

Add reducer at 1%–5% by weight (10% max). Start low — you can always add more.

3 · Mix smooth

Mix until smooth and uniform so the reducer is fully blended through the ink.

4 · Rest 5–10 min

Let it stand 5–10 minutes to release air bubbles, then print. Don’t over-thin.

Reducer and catalyst are different jobs. Reducer tunes flow; it does not replace catalyst. You still add your Matsui silicone catalyst to cure the ink — reducer just makes the catalyzed ink flow the way you want.

What is Matsui Yama Reducer used for?

It’s a viscosity & flow modifier for the Yama silicone ink system. When silicone prints too thick — dragging, filling in fine detail, or choking high mesh — adding 1%–5% reducer lowers the viscosity so the ink flows smoothly, holds crisp detail and clears fine screens, while keeping the ink’s stretch, opacity and durability.

Why would I need a reducer for silicone ink?

Silicone is high-solids and built for durability, which can make it stiff for detailed work. A reducer lets you print fine lines, halftones and high-mesh jobs cleanly, lay a thinner and softer film, and improve wet-out for even coverage — without watering down performance. If your detail fills in or the ink won’t clear the mesh, reducer is the fix.

How much reducer should I add?

Add 1%–5% by weight, with a hard ceiling of 10%. Stir the ink first, add reducer, mix until smooth and uniform, then let it rest 5–10 minutes to release air bubbles before printing. Start low — you can always add a touch more.

Can I over-thin the ink?

Yes — don’t exceed 10%. Too much reducer can reduce opacity and soften edge definition, so your prints look weaker and less crisp. Add just enough to get the flow you need and no more.

Does reducer hurt stretch, opacity or durability?

Used within the recommended 1%–5% range, no — Yama Reducer is designed to improve flow while maintaining stretch, opacity and durability. Those properties only start to suffer if you over-thin past the 10% limit.

Does reducer replace catalyst?

No — they do different jobs. Reducer tunes flow and viscosity; it does not cure the ink. You still add your Matsui silicone catalyst so the ink cures properly.

What mesh and cure settings apply?

Print through 80–160 mesh (31–63T). Flash ~220°F for 5–8 seconds, and final cure at 300–320°F (150–160°C) with the ink film reaching above 250°F. Store sealed at 65–77°F; shelf life is 12 months unopened.
