Description
Matsui Acrylicon Clear — Matte Look. Silicone Feel. Zero Tack.
Every other Matsui performance clear optimizes for one thing. Stretch Clear optimizes for its silicone-like finish. Soft Stretch Clear optimizes for maximum softness. EasyPrint Clear optimizes for high-mesh detail.
Acrylicon Clear optimizes for three things simultaneously: how the print LOOKS (matte), how the print FEELS (silicone-like), and how the print BEHAVES (zero tack).
The matte surface is a flat, non-reflective visual appearance — the print does not shine, does not gloss, does not catch light. It reads as deliberate, refined, and design-forward. This is the same matte quality that 301M Matte delivers on cotton — but Acrylicon Clear delivers it on performance and stretch fabrics with full elasticity.
The silicone-like hand feel is a smooth, refined tactile quality — similar to Stretch Clear, but paired with the matte appearance instead of a standard sheen.
The zero tack is the production advantage. After curing, Acrylicon Clear prints have no surface stickiness — garments can be stacked, folded, packaged, and shipped immediately without sticking together. Low wet ink tack and low after-flash tack also mean smoother production flow with fewer handling issues during multi-color printing.
This combination — matte + silicone-like + zero tack — is unique in the Matsui acrylic lineup. No other base delivers all three. It is the premium finish clear for brands that specify both the visual appearance AND the tactile behavior of the printed garment.
Acrylicon Clear pairs with Acrylicon White to form the complete Acrylicon system. When both the white underbase and the color layer use the Acrylicon formulation, the entire print achieves the matte, zero-tack, silicone-like finish from bottom to top.
How Acrylicon Clear Works with Matsui Neo Pigments and Glow Pigments
Acrylicon Clear is a mixing base — it is the carrier that brings Matsui Neo Pigments and Glow Pigments to life on performance garments with a matte, zero-tack, silicone-like finish. The mixing system works like this:
Acrylicon Clear + Neo Pigments = Matte Zero-Tack Custom Colors on Performance Fabrics. Add up to 15% Matsui Neo Pigments (concentrated color pigments) to Acrylicon Clear to create virtually any color in the Pantone spectrum — with the matte appearance, zero-tack surface, and elasticity that premium brands demand. Standard mixing ratio is 5-10% pigment to base by weight. Matsui’s free cloud-based Color Mixer Software provides exact formulas — enter the Pantone number, get the pigment ratios, mix, print.
The Neo Pigment series includes a full spectrum of concentrated color pigments — reds, blues, greens, yellows, oranges, violets, blacks, and more — that intermix precisely for accurate Pantone matching. Because they are concentrated, a small amount goes a long way, keeping per-print ink cost low.
The critical advantage: colors mixed with Acrylicon Clear inherit the matte finish and zero-tack behavior. The finish does not change when you add pigment. A Pantone 186 red mixed into Acrylicon Clear will cure matte, non-reflective, and zero-tack — every time, regardless of the color.
Acrylicon Clear + Glow Pigments = Matte Fluorescent Neon with Zero Tack on Performance Fabrics. For high-impact specialty applications, mix Matsui Glow Pigments into Acrylicon Clear to create vivid fluorescent neon prints on stretch garments with a matte finish and zero tack. Important: Matsui Glow Pigments are fluorescent pigments — they produce ultra-bright, electric neon colors in normal daylight, not phosphorescent glow-in-the-dark effects. They do NOT glow on their own in the dark. However, fluorescent pigments are naturally UV/blacklight reactive — under blacklight (UV) illumination, they absorb UV energy and re-emit it as intensely bright visible light, creating a dramatic neon glow effect. Colors like fluorescent yellow, pink, orange, and green produce the most intense blacklight reaction. Ideal for concert tees, festival merch, nightclub and rave apparel, and any performance garment designed for UV-lit environments — with the matte, zero-tack finish that makes post-production handling effortless.
Acrylicon Clear Alone = Matte Zero-Tack Tone-on-Tone on Performance Fabrics. Print Acrylicon Clear without any pigments for a subtle, matte, zero-tack clear overprint on colored performance garments. The print area changes to a flat, non-reflective texture without changing color — a refined decoration technique for premium athletic branding where the matte appearance communicates design intent.

How Matsui Additives Improve Your Production with Acrylicon Clear
The base and pigments create the color. Matsui additives optimize the production process — solving common water-based printing challenges that cost you time, money, and rejected garments.
The problem: Water-based ink dries in the screen during production pauses, forcing you to clean and re-flood. The additive solution: Retarder MG (1-5%) extends open time in the screen, giving you more working time between prints.
The problem: Prints fade or crack after repeated washing — especially on athletic garments that see heavy laundry cycles. The additive solution: Fixer WF-N (1-5%) crosslinks the acrylic binder for dramatically improved wash fastness. Also lowers cure temperature to 300°F (150°C). Highly recommended for any performance garment.
The problem: The ink sits on top of synthetic fibers instead of bonding into them, affecting adhesion and hand feel. The additive solution: Softener MG (1-4%) helps the ink penetrate deeper into the garment for better adhesion and an even softer hand feel.
The problem: You want all three benefits but do not want to measure and mix three separate additives. The additive solution: Quick Additive (6-9%) is a pre-balanced all-in-one blend of Retarder MG, Fixer WF-N, and Softener MG. One additive, one measurement, all three production benefits.
Additional additives for specialized needs: Thickener B (0.25-1%) increases viscosity for halftone dot control. RV Additive (1-3%) reduces viscosity for better flow and fabric penetration.

Where Acrylicon Clear Fits — Every Matsui Base, Side by Side
Matsui makes twelve different clear bases and mixing bases. Each one is designed to be mixed with Neo Pigments and Glow Pigments and enhanced with Matsui additives. The base you choose determines the substrate, mesh range, opacity, elasticity, and finish. The pigments determine the color. The additives optimize the process.
Acrylicon Clear occupies the premium finish position — the ONLY Matsui acrylic clear base that combines matte appearance + silicone-like hand feel + zero tack on performance fabrics. It is a different kind of premium than Soft Stretch Clear (which optimizes for softness alone).

Acrylicon Clear vs. Stretch Clear — Matte Zero-Tack vs. Silicone-Like Sheen
Two premium performance clears. Two different finish philosophies.
| Spec | Acrylicon Clear (WS0530) | Stretch Clear 301 (WS0501) |
|---|---|---|
| Mesh Range | 86-160/inch | 150-180/inch |
| Finish | Matte, silicone-like, ZERO TACK — flat, non-reflective, no stickiness | Silicone-like — smooth, tactile, slight sheen |
| Surface Tack | ZERO — no stickiness wet or after flash. Stack, fold, ship immediately. | Low — standard handling |
| Visual Appearance | Matte — flat, non-reflective, design-forward | Standard sheen — smooth, slightly reflective |
| White Ink Pairing | Acrylicon White — complete matte zero-tack system | Stretch White 301 |
| Choose This When… | The brand specifies matte appearance AND zero tack — how the print looks AND how it behaves | The brand wants a silicone-like tactile finish with standard sheen — how the print feels |
The bottom line: Stretch Clear optimizes for FEEL (silicone-like tactile). Acrylicon Clear optimizes for LOOK + BEHAVIOR (matte appearance + zero tack). Different clients prioritize different attributes.
Acrylicon Clear vs. Soft Stretch Clear — Two Kinds of Premium
| Spec | Acrylicon Clear (WS0530) | Soft Stretch Clear (WS0535) |
|---|---|---|
| Primary Advantage | Matte appearance + zero tack + silicone-like hand | Maximum softness — the softest acrylic clear for performance |
| Optimizes For | How the print LOOKS and BEHAVES | How the print FEELS |
| Choose This When… | The spec prioritizes matte visual finish and zero-tack handling | The spec prioritizes the absolute softest possible hand feel |
The bottom line: Two different kinds of premium for two different client specifications. If the client says “I want it matte and non-sticky,” use Acrylicon Clear. If the client says “I want the softest possible hand,” use Soft Stretch Clear.
Why Screen Printers Choose Acrylicon Clear
- My client specifies a matte finish on performance garments — no shine, no gloss. This is the core Acrylicon Clear use case. Mix with Neo Pigments for Pantone colors that cure matte every time. No matte overcoat or post-process needed.
- Printed garments stick together during stacking, folding, and packaging — I need zero tack. Acrylicon Clear cures with zero surface tack so garments can be stacked, folded, packaged, and shipped immediately after curing without sticking together.
- I want the complete Acrylicon system — white and clear — for matte zero-tack from underbase to color. Print Acrylicon White as your underbase, flash, then print Acrylicon Clear + Neo Pigment colors on top.
- I want matte fluorescent neon prints on performance garments that react under blacklight. Mix Matsui Glow Pigments into Acrylicon Clear for vivid fluorescent neon colors with a matte finish and zero tack.
- My water-based ink keeps drying in the screen during production. Add Retarder MG at 1-5% to extend open time, or use Quick Additive at 6-9% for open time, wash fastness, and softness in one shot.
- I print athletic apparel that needs to survive 50+ wash cycles. Add Fixer WF-N at 1-5% to crosslink the acrylic binder for dramatically improved wash durability.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What additives should I use with Acrylicon Clear?
For most jobs, use Quick Additive at 6-9%. For individual control, use Retarder MG (1-5%), Fixer WF-N (1-5% — recommended for athletic garments), and Softener MG (1-4%). Browse all Matsui additives here.
Can I use Acrylicon Clear on dark polyester?
Yes, but print an Under Base Blocker first, flash, then apply your Acrylicon Clear + Neo Pigment color on top. Acrylicon Clear has no bleed resistance — the blocker is essential on dye-sublimation substrates. Always test before production.
What mesh count should I use with Acrylicon Clear?
The recommended range is 86-160/inch (34-63/cm). For standard color work, use 110-160 mesh. For heavier deposit and more pronounced matte effect, use 86-110 mesh.
Do all Matsui bases work with Neo Pigments?
Yes — every acrylic Matsui base is designed to mix with Matsui Neo Pigments and Glow Pigments. The base determines substrate, mesh range, and finish. The pigments determine the color. The additives optimize the process.
Which Matsui bases require a blocker on polyester?
All of them. Every Matsui clear and mixing base requires a blocker on polyester to prevent dye sublimation migration. The acrylic bases use Under Base Blocker or Kombat Blocker. The polyurethane 350 Series uses Under Base Blocker 350. Always test before production.
Is Acrylicon Clear safe for children’s clothing?
Yes. Acrylicon Clear is OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified, suitable for baby products, CPSIA compliant, and HR4040 compliant. It is also PVC-free, phthalate-free, and contains no co-solvents.
How does Acrylicon Clear relate to 301M Matte on cotton?
Both deliver a matte finish, but on different substrates. Acrylicon Clear is for performance and stretch fabrics at 86-160 mesh — matte + zero tack + silicone-like hand + elasticity. 301M Matte is for cotton at 305 mesh — matte + semi-opaque coverage on colored garments. Acrylicon Clear is transparent, while 301M Matte is semi-opaque.
