Here is the problem 301C Clear cannot solve: your client hands you a charcoal heather cotton tee and wants a specific Pantone blue printed on it. You mix the Pantone blue into 301C Clear, print it, and the result is barely visible — because 301C is transparent, and the dark garment color absorbs the ink color underneath.

301M Matte White exists to solve that problem.

It is the semi-opaque counterpart to 301C Clear in the Matsui cotton mixing system. Same 305 mesh capability. Same ultra-soft hand feel. Same Pantone color matching with Neo Pigments. 301M Matte + Neo Pigments = Visible Custom Colors on Colored Cotton. Add up to 15% Matsui Neo Pigments (concentrated color pigments) to 301M Matte to create virtually any color in the Pantone spectrum — with the semi-opacity needed for the color to actually show up on medium and dark garments. Standard mixing ratio is 5-10% pigment to base by weight. Matsui’s free cloud-based Color Mixer Software provides exact formulas — enter the Pantone number, get the pigment ratios, mix, print.

What pigments do I mix with 301M Matte to create custom colors?

Mix 301M Matte with Matsui Neo Pigments — a series of concentrated color pigments that cover the full Pantone spectrum. Add 5–10% pigment to base by weight for standard colors, up to 15% maximum. For fluorescent neon effects, use Matsui Glow Pigments with 301M Matte. The semi-opaque carrier gives both standard and fluorescent colors more visual presence on colored cotton than a transparent base would.

What is the difference between 301M Matte and 301C Clear?

Same mesh range (305), same Neo Pigment and additive compatibility, completely different opacity. 301C Clear is transparent — best for light cotton where you want true, vivid pigment colors. 301M Matte is semi-opaque with a matte finish — best for colored/dark cotton where you need the color to show up against the garment. Stock both to handle every cotton garment color.

Can I create fluorescent neon and blacklight-reactive prints with 301M Matte?

Yes. Mix Matsui Glow Pigments into 301M Matte for vivid fluorescent neon colors. Important: Glow Pigments are fluorescent pigments — they produce ultra-bright neon colors in normal daylight, NOT phosphorescent glow-in-the-dark effects. They do not glow on their own in the dark. However, they are naturally UV/blacklight reactive — under blacklight, they absorb UV energy and re-emit intensely bright visible light. Fluorescent yellow, pink, orange, and green produce the strongest blacklight reaction. The 301M Matte carrier gives these fluorescent colors more visual impact on dark cotton than 301C Clear would.

What additives should I use with 301M Matte?

For most jobs, use Quick Additive at 6–9% — a pre-balanced blend that solves screen drying, wash fastness, and fabric penetration in one measurement. For individual control, use Retarder MG (1–5%), Fixer WF-N (1–5%), and Softener MG (1–4%). Browse all Matsui additives here.

Can I use 301M Matte on performance fabrics like Dri-Fit?

301M Matte is not stretch-rated — it is formulated for cotton. For semi-opaque colors on performance and stretch fabrics, use EasyPrint Mat 301 (225 mesh) or Stretch Mat 301 (150–180 mesh). Both are stretch-rated and mix with the same Neo Pigments and additives.

Can I use 301M Matte on polyester?

Yes, but you must print an underbase blocker first to prevent dye sublimation migration. Print the blocker, flash, then apply your 301M Matte + Neo Pigment color on top.

Can I print 301M Matte by itself as a standalone white?

Yes — 301M Matte prints as a soft, semi-opaque matte white on colored cotton. It produces a subtle, understated white with a flat, non-reflective finish. It can also function as a primer underlay: print 301M Matte first, flash, then print your color layer on top for enhanced opacity and a matte foundation.

What mesh count should I use with 301M Matte?

The recommended range is 120–305/inch (47–120/cm). For maximum softness and thinnest deposit on colored cotton, use 280–305 mesh. For more coverage and opacity on darker garments, use 120–230 mesh — the lower the mesh, the heavier the deposit and the more the garment color is covered. Use a 60–80 durometer square-edge squeegee.

Will the matte finish change when I add pigments?

No — the matte finish is built into the 301M Matte formulation. Colors mixed with Neo Pigments and Glow Pigments will retain the matte, flat finish. This is one of the key reasons fashion brands choose 301M Matte — the finish stays consistent regardless of the color mixed into it.

Do all Matsui bases work with Neo Pigments?

Yes — every acrylic Matsui base (301C, 301M, EasyPrint Clear, EasyPrint Mat, Stretch Clear, Stretch Mat, Soft Stretch Clear, Acrylicon Clear, Simple Clear, and Extender Base) is designed to mix with Matsui Neo Pigments and Glow Pigments. The base determines the substrate, mesh range, and finish. The pigments determine the color. The additives optimize the process.

Which Matsui bases require a blocker on polyester?

All of them. Every Matsui clear and mixing base requires an underbase blocker on polyester or dark poly blends to prevent dye sublimation migration. The acrylic bases use Under Base Blocker or Kombat Blocker. The polyurethane 350 Series uses Under Base Blocker 350. Always test before production.

Is 301M Matte safe for children’s clothing?

Yes. 301M Matte is OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified (suitable for baby products), CPSIA compliant, and HR4040 compliant. PVC-free, phthalate-free, no co-solvents.

Why would I choose a semi-opaque base instead of a clear base?
