Description

DS Hybrid Top Coat — The Protective Shield for Digital Hybrid Prints

Digital inkjet inks are designed for color and resolution. They are not designed for durability. On their own, digital inks on fabric are vulnerable to abrasion, UV fading, moisture, and washing. They need a shield.

DS Hybrid Top Coat is that shield.

Screen printed as the FINAL layer — after the digital inkjet pass — Top Coat forms a clear, protective barrier that encapsulates the entire digital print. It locks in color vibrancy, prevents cracking and peeling, and dramatically improves wash durability. The digital inks are sealed inside a soft, flexible, water-based shell that moves with the fabric and maintains a premium hand feel.

Without Top Coat, digital hybrid prints look great on day one but degrade over time. With Top Coat, they look great through dozens of washes.

Where Top Coat Fits in the Digital Hybrid Workflow

Standard full workflow:

  1. DS Hybrid UB White → screen printed underbase
  2. Digiace Digital Screen Clear → screen printed primer
  3. Digital inkjet CMYK → printed by M&R Digital Squeegee or ROQ Hybrid
  4. DS Hybrid Top Coat → screen printed sealer (THIS PRODUCT — FINAL LAYER)

Discharge workflow (100% cotton):

  1. Digiace Discharge White + Activator → screen printed discharge underbase
  2. Digiace Digital Screen Clear → screen printed primer
  3. Digital inkjet CMYK
  4. DS Hybrid Top Coat → screen printed sealer (THIS PRODUCT)

Simplified workflow:

  1. DS Hybrid Pre-Digital White → standalone screen printed underbase
  2. Digital inkjet CMYK
  3. DS Hybrid Top Coat → screen printed sealer (THIS PRODUCT — optional but recommended)

Matsui Digital Hybrid Product System — 5-Product Master Comparison

Product Type Position in Workflow Function Max Mesh Used With Substrates Activator?

Digiace Digital Screen Clear Clear primer/bonding layer SECOND — screen printed AFTER white underbase, BEFORE digital print Creates smooth bonding surface for digital inks. Improves color vibrancy, adhesion, and definition. 230 Printed over UB White or Discharge White Cotton, blends, performance No
DS Hybrid Top Coat (THIS PRODUCT) Clear overprint sealer LAST — screen printed AFTER digital print Encapsulates and protects the digital print. Locks in color, adds abrasion/UV/wash resistance. 230 Recommended with low-resin digital inks Cotton, blends, performance No

Top Coat vs. Digiace Clear — Both Are Clear, But They Do Different Things

Two clear products. Completely different jobs. Do not confuse them.

Digiace Digital Screen Clear goes BEFORE the digital print — it is a primer/bonding layer that helps digital inks stick to the white underbase.

DS Hybrid Top Coat goes AFTER the digital print — it is a protective sealer that encapsulates the finished digital print.

Clear = primer (before digital). Top Coat = sealer (after digital). Both are clear inks, but they occupy opposite ends of the print sandwich.

⚠️ Critical Contamination Warning

DS Hybrid Top Coat MUST be mixed in clean vessels using clean mixing blades and utensils. Any contamination from other ink sources or non-approved additives could make DS Hybrid Top Coat test positive for restricted PVCs.

Why Screen Printers Choose DS Hybrid Top Coat

“My digital hybrid prints fade and crack after a few washes.”
Top Coat encapsulates the digital ink layer in a protective shell. Dramatically improved wash durability, abrasion resistance, and color retention.

“I need UV protection for outdoor or retail garments.”
Top Coat shields digital inks from UV degradation. Colors stay vibrant longer.

“Will it affect the hand feel?”
Top Coat produces ultra-soft prints. The protective layer is thin, flexible, and moves with the fabric. Minimal hand feel impact.

“Is it required or optional?”
Strongly recommended for production garments. Optional for samples or low-wash applications. For retail-quality durability, always use Top Coat.
