Matsui DS Hybrid Top Coat is the final screen-printed layer in the digital hybrid workflow — applied after the digital CMYK inkjet pass to encapsulate and protect the finished digital print. Top Coat seals the digital ink layer, improves wash durability, adds resistance to abrasion and UV fading, and locks in color. Without Top Coat, digital inkjet colors are exposed and vulnerable — with it, the finished print is protected for long-term durability. Prints through 230 mesh. Cure at 320°F. Works on all fabric types. PVC-free.

Description

DS Hybrid Top Coat — STEP 4 — Screen Printed Last, After Digital Pass

Digital inkjet inks — especially water-based inkjet systems on fabric — produce vivid colors but are inherently vulnerable without protection. The ink sits in an open matrix on the fabric surface, subject to abrasion, UV exposure, and washing forces that can degrade or remove it over time. DS Hybrid Top Coat seals that vulnerability by screen printing a clear protective film over the entire digital print after the digital pass. It encapsulates the ink, crosslinks the protective film during curing, and delivers a finished garment that holds up to repeated washing and wear the way a production-quality decorated garment must.

What It Does

🔒
Encapsulates Digital Ink
Seals the digital inkjet color layer under a clear protective film — preventing direct exposure to abrasion, washing forces, and UV light that degrade unprotected digital inks.
🧺
Improves Wash Durability
The crosslinked Top Coat film holds the digital ink in place through repeated laundering — dramatically improving wash durability compared to unprotected digital hybrid prints.
☀️
UV and Abrasion Resistance
Protects against UV fading and physical abrasion — essential for garments worn and washed frequently, and for prints with fine photographic detail that would degrade without protection.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What does DS Hybrid Top Coat do?

It is a clear overprint sealer. Printed as the FINAL layer after the digital inkjet pass, it encapsulates and protects the digital print — improving wash durability, abrasion resistance, UV resistance, and color retention.

What is the difference between Top Coat and Digiace Clear?

Digiace Clear goes BEFORE the digital print as a bonding primer. Top Coat goes AFTER the digital print as a protective sealer. Both are clear, but they serve opposite functions in the workflow.

Is Top Coat required?

Strongly recommended for production garments. It significantly improves durability and wash performance. Optional for samples or limited-wear applications.

What digital inks is it compatible with?

Recommended for use with low-resin digital inks used in M&R Digital Squeegee, ROQ Hybrid, and ROQ Now systems.

What mesh should I use?

Up to 230 mesh.

Will it affect hand feel?

Top Coat produces ultra-soft prints. The protective layer is thin and flexible with minimal hand feel impact.
