Matsui DS Hybrid UB White is a high-performance water-based white underbase ink designed as the FIRST screen-printed layer in digital hybrid printing workflows. Applied to dark garments before the digital inkjet pass, UB White provides the opaque white foundation that digital CMYK inks print onto — ensuring vivid color reproduction, accurate color registration, and effective dye migration blocking. Requires Digiace Digital Screen Clear printed over it for optimal digital ink bonding. Optimized for M&R Digital Squeegee and ROQ Hybrid / ROQ Now systems. Prints through mesh up to 160. Cure at 320°F (160°C) for 2-3 minutes. PVC-free. Soft hand feel. Ready for use — no viscosity modifications needed.

Description

DS Hybrid UB White — The White Foundation for Digital Color

Every vivid digital hybrid print starts with the same thing: a clean, bright, opaque white layer underneath.

Dark garments absorb and distort digital inkjet colors. The garment dye bleeds through. The CMYK values shift. The result looks muddy, dull, and off-color. UB White solves this by screen printing a solid white barrier between the dark garment and the digital color layer. The white underbase does three critical jobs: blocks garment dye migration, provides a bright reflective surface for accurate color reproduction, and creates a consistent foundation for the digital print head to print onto.

UB White is the standard workhorse white in the Matsui digital hybrid system. It delivers reliable opacity, excellent dye blocking, and a soft hand feel — the essential first layer for every dark garment that runs through your M&R Digital Squeegee or ROQ Hybrid press.

UB White in the Full Digital Hybrid Workflow

Standard dark garment workflow:

  1. DS Hybrid UB White → screen printed (THIS PRODUCT — white underbase/dye blocker)
  2. Digiace Digital Screen Clear → screen printed primer (bonding surface for digital inks)
  3. Digital inkjet CMYK → printed by M&R Digital Squeegee or ROQ Hybrid
  4. DS Hybrid Top Coat → screen printed sealer (protection + durability)

⚠️ Important: UB White requires Digiace Digital Screen Clear printed over it for optimal digital ink bonding and color performance. If you want a white underbase that works WITHOUT a Clear layer, use DS Hybrid Pre-Digital White instead.

Choosing the Right White Underbase — UB White vs. Pre-Digital White vs. Discharge White

Matsui offers three white underbase options for digital hybrid printing. Each serves a different production need.

Spec UB White (This Product) Pre-Digital White Digiace Discharge White
Workflow UB White → Clear → Digital → Top Coat (full 4-step) Pre-Digital White → Digital → Top Coat (simplified 3-step) Discharge White → Clear → Digital → Top Coat (full 4-step)
Clear Layer Required? YES — Digiace Clear over it NO — standalone YES — Digiace Clear over it
Discharge Activator? No No ⚠️ YES — required
Max Mesh 160 160 230
Substrates Cotton, blends, performance Cotton, blends, performance ⚠️ 100% cotton ONLY
Hand Feel Soft Soft ULTRA-SOFT (softest — discharge embeds into fibers)
Best For Maximum color performance on ANY dark fabric. Full workflow with Clear for best digital ink bonding. Simplified workflow. Fewer screens, faster throughput. Good digital ink adhesion without Clear. Premium 100% cotton with softest possible hand. Fashion/retail. Discharge removes garment dye.

Matsui Digital Hybrid Product System — 5-Product Master Comparison

Product Type Position in Workflow Function Max Mesh Used With Substrates Activator?
DS Hybrid UB White (THIS PRODUCT) White underbase FIRST — screen printed Opacity + dye block on dark garments. Standard white underbase for digital hybrid. 160 Needs Digiace Clear or Pre-Digital Clear over it Cotton, blends, performance No
Digiace Discharge White Discharge white underbase FIRST — screen printed Removes garment dye + replaces with white. Ultra-soft hand. SOFTEST underbase option. 230 Needs Digiace Clear over it ⚠️ 100% cotton only YES — Discharge Activator required
DS Hybrid Pre-Digital White Standalone white underbase FIRST — screen printed White underbase that works ON ITS OWN — does NOT require Clear layer over it. 160 Can be used alone — no Clear needed Cotton, blends, performance No
Digiace Digital Screen Clear Clear primer/bonding layer SECOND — screen printed AFTER white underbase, BEFORE digital print Creates smooth bonding surface for digital inks. Improves color vibrancy, adhesion, and definition. 230 Printed over UB White or Discharge White Cotton, blends, performance No
DS Hybrid Top Coat Clear overprint sealer LAST — screen printed AFTER digital print Encapsulates and protects the digital print. Locks in color, adds abrasion/UV/wash resistance. 230 Recommended with low-resin digital inks Cotton, blends, performance No

⚠️ Critical Contamination Warning

DS Hybrid UB White MUST be mixed in clean vessels using clean mixing blades and utensils. Any contamination from other ink sources or non-approved additives could cause UB White to test positive for restricted PVCs.

Why Screen Printers Choose DS Hybrid UB White

“I need the best possible color performance on dark garments in my digital hybrid press.”
UB White paired with Digiace Clear delivers maximum digital ink bonding and color vibrancy. The full 4-step workflow produces the highest quality digital hybrid prints.

“I print on polyester blends and performance fabrics — not just cotton.”
UB White works on cotton, blends, and performance fabrics. Unlike Discharge White, it does not require 100% cotton.

“I need reliable dye migration blocking on dark garments.”
UB White provides effective dye migration prevention — keeping garment dyes from bleeding through into the digital color layer.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do I need Digiace Clear over UB White?

YES — for best results, print Digiace Digital Screen Clear over UB White before the digital inkjet pass. The Clear layer improves digital ink bonding and color performance.

What if I want a simpler workflow without the Clear layer?

Use DS Hybrid Pre-Digital White instead. It is engineered to work standalone without Clear.

Can I use UB White on polyester?

Yes — UB White works on cotton, blends, and performance fabrics. It is the most versatile white underbase in the system.

What is the difference between UB White and Discharge White?

UB White deposits white ON TOP of the fabric surface (works on any fabric). Discharge White chemically removes garment dye and embeds white INTO the cotton fibers (100% cotton only, softest hand, requires activator).

What equipment is it designed for?

M&R Digital Squeegee, ROQ Hybrid, and ROQ Now digital screen printing systems.

What mesh should I use?

Up to 160 mesh. Lower mesh than the Clear or Top Coat products because UB White needs a heavier ink deposit for opacity.
