Description
The Shade That Makes Every Formula Work.
You can’t mix the full Pantone spectrum without black. Every dark color, every muted tone, every earth color, every hunter green, charcoal gray, burgundy, and chocolate brown requires black as the shading base. Inktek LBX 19888 Black is the neutral shading anchor of the LBX Pantone Mixing System — a clean, neutral black that lowers value and desaturates other bases without pulling them toward warm or cool. Part of the 15-color LBX system, it combines precisely with every other LBX base to hit dark and muted Pantone targets. Fully cures at 280°F. Use the free LBX Pantone Color Formulator at formulator.screenprintsupplies.com to get exact mix ratios instantly.
Why LBX 19888 Black?
LBX Black darkens and desaturates without pulling other colors warm or cool — critical for accurate shading. A warm black tints mixed colors yellow-brown; a cool black tints them blue. LBX Black is formulated neutral so your dark Pantone formulas go where the formula says, not where the black decides.
Without black, you can’t hit dark greens, dark browns, charcoals, deep earth tones, burgundy, or any muted, low-saturation color. LBX Black is what makes the LBX system capable of the full Pantone spectrum — not just brights and mid-tones.
Beyond mixing, LBX Black performs as a fully capable standalone black for printing on light and medium garments. High opacity and clean lay-down make it equally useful as a mixing component and a production black.
Full cure at 280°F means safe use on polyester, tri-blends, and athletic wear — whether used as a straight black print or as the shading component in a mixed Pantone formula.
Available Sizes
- QQuart (32 oz) — Good for shops adding shading capability to their LBX system or supplementing existing black supply
- GGallon (128 oz) — Standard production size — stock multiple gallons; black is consumed heavily in most Pantone mixing programs
- 55-Gallon Pail — High-volume shops with heavy Pantone mixing programs across the full dark and muted spectrum

Printing with LBX 19888 Black
Go to formulator.screenprintsupplies.com and enter your Pantone target. Dark and muted colors often use black as a small but critical component — even 2–5% black can dramatically shift a color toward the correct dark, muted, or earthy tone.
Use a digital gram scale accurate to 0.1g. Black is potent — small amounts have a large visual effect. A few extra grams of black in a formula can turn a forest green into a near-black or shift a warm red toward maroon. Weigh every component precisely.
Mix until fully homogeneous. Any unmixed black streaks will appear as dark inconsistencies in the print. A paddle mixer on a drill ensures complete incorporation, especially in larger batches.
Target 280°F internal ink temp. Verify with a donut probe. Stretch test and wash test before shipping customer orders.
Dark & Muted Pantone Targets LBX Black Helps You Hit
PMS 357, 350, 3435, 7483 — hunter, forest, and military greens; mix LBX Green + LBX Black for the full dark green range
PMS 729, 730, 4625 — warm earth tones, chocolate browns, and tans; mix warm bases with Black for muted, grounded results
PMS 425, 432, Cool Gray 10 — mix LBX Black + LBX White for the full gray and charcoal range
PMS 202, 209, 7421 — deep red-wine tones; mix LBX Red or Magenta + LBX Black for the full dark red family
Even small amounts of black have a large visual effect on other colors. A few extra grams can shift a color dramatically toward dark and muted. Always weigh every component, including black, on a gram scale accurate to 0.1g. Never add black by eye.
Dark and muted Pantone targets require black as a component in formulas across almost every color family. If you’re running a full LBX mixing program, black consumption is higher than most shops expect. Keep backup stock on hand.
