Description

Matsui Quick Additive – One Additive. Four Performance Upgrades. Zero Guesswork.

Matsui Quick Additive is the all-in-one ink modifier that replaces the need to individually measure and mix Matsui’s four most commonly used water-based ink additives. Engineered by Matsui International, this pre-blended formulation combines Retarder MG, Softener MG, Fixer WF-N, and Thickener B in one optimized ratio – so you get extended open time, softer prints, better wash durability, and improved ink body with a single pour.

For screen printing shops that are already using two or three separate Matsui additives in their daily ink prep, Quick Additive eliminates the weighing, measuring, and mixing of each one individually. Instead of opening four containers, calculating separate percentages, and hoping you got the ratios right, you add Quick Additive at 4-10% by weight and move on to printing. It is the fastest way to go from opening a bucket of ink to pulling your first print – with all the performance enhancements already built in.

What is Inside Matsui Quick Additive:

Quick Additive is not a generic filler or extender. It is a precisely formulated blend of four proven Matsui additives, each serving a specific purpose in the printing process:

Component What It Does Standalone Usage
Retarder MG Slows ink drying in the screen, extends open time, and prevents clogging during production 1-5% by weight
Softener MG Produces a softer hand feel, lubricates the mesh during printing, and improves ink penetration into the garment 1-5% by weight
Fixer WF-N Improves wash and crock fastness, lowers cure temperature to 300F (150C), and locks pigments into the fabric for long-lasting durability 1-4% by weight
Thickener B Raises ink viscosity slightly to improve body and dot retention for halftone printing 0.25-1% by weight

When used individually, a printer would need to measure and mix each of these four products separately – totaling four containers to open, four calculations to make, and four opportunities for error. Quick Additive delivers all four in a single, properly proportioned blend.

Key Features:

  • True 4-in-1 Formulation: Combines Retarder MG, Softener MG, Fixer WF-N, and Thickener B in one pre-blended solution. No separate measuring, no math, no guesswork.
  • Extended Screen Open Time: The Retarder MG component slows ink drying in the mesh, preventing clogging and buildup during long print runs – especially valuable in low-humidity environments below 35%.
  • Ultra-Soft Hand Feel: The Softener MG component produces smooth, plush prints that feel luxurious against the skin. Prints feel like part of the garment, not a layer sitting on top.
  • Improved Wash and Crock Fastness: The Fixer WF-N component locks pigments into the fabric for enhanced wash durability and resistance to color transfer from rubbing (crock fastness).
  • Mesh Lubrication During Printing: Softener MG lubricates the mesh threads during production, reducing friction and ensuring smoother ink flow through the screen for cleaner, crisper prints.
  • Better Ink Body and Dot Retention: The Thickener B component adds controlled viscosity, helping hold your dot for halftone printing and preventing ink from running or spreading.
  • Excellent Print Elasticity: Maintains flexibility in the cured ink film – critical for Dri-Fit, performance wear, and stretch fabrics that need prints to move with the garment without cracking.
  • No Pot Life Limitation: Unlike discharge activators, Quick Additive does not start a chemical countdown. Mixed ink can be stored and used on your normal production schedule.
  • Eco-Friendly and Certified Safe: OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified, CPSIA compliant, and HR4040 compliant. PVC-free formulation meets the restricted substance lists (RSL) of all major apparel brands.
  • Universal Matsui Compatibility: Works across the full Matsui water-based ink lineup including 301 Series bases, Neo Pigments, EasyPrint, Alpha Series, Infinity Colors, Discharge bases, and all Matsui mixing systems.

Why Screen Printers Use Matsui Quick Additive:

Water-based screen printing delivers the soft-hand, breathable prints that today’s fashion brands and consumers demand – but it comes with inherent challenges that plastisol printers never have to think about. Ink drying in the screen. Clogging on long runs. Wash fastness that does not hold up after a few cycles. Prints that feel stiff instead of buttery soft. These are the everyday problems that Matsui’s individual additives (Retarder, Softener, Fixer, Thickener) were created to solve.

The problem? Most shops end up buying, storing, measuring, and mixing three or four separate additives for every ink batch. That adds time to ink prep, increases the chance of mixing errors, and clutters the ink room with extra containers. Quick Additive solves all of that by delivering every essential modifier in one product.

For shops transitioning from plastisol to water-based printing, Quick Additive dramatically flattens the learning curve. Instead of learning the ratios and behaviors of four separate additives, a new water-based printer can add Quick Additive at the recommended rate and immediately get ink that flows well, stays open in the screen, produces soft prints, and holds up in the wash. It is the closest thing to a “just works” button for water-based ink performance.

For experienced water-based shops running Matsui inks daily, Quick Additive saves measurable time on every batch. If you are already adding Retarder MG, Softener MG, and Fixer WF-N to most of your ink mixes, switching to Quick Additive consolidates three steps into one – with the same performance results.

How to Use Matsui Quick Additive:

Step 1 – Weigh Your Ink: Using a digital gram scale, weigh the amount of ink you need for your production run.

Step 2 – Add Quick Additive: Add 4-10% Quick Additive by weight to the ink. The recommended standard is 7-9% for most applications. For maximum performance, use 9%.

Step 3 – Mix Thoroughly: Stir or blend until the additive is fully incorporated. Use clean mixing utensils to avoid contamination.

Step 4 – Print: Your ink is now ready with extended open time, improved softness, enhanced wash fastness, and better body – all in one step. Print through mesh counts up to 305 threads/inch and cure at 320F (160C) for 2.5-3 minutes.

Matsui Quick Additive vs. Individual Additives: Time Comparison:

Workflow Individual Additives Quick Additive
Products to open 4 containers 1 container
Calculations required 4 separate percentages 1 percentage
Weighing steps 4 separate weighs 1 weigh
Risk of mixing error Higher – 4 points of failure Minimal – pre-blended ratio
Inventory to manage 4 SKUs to stock and reorder 1 SKU
Performance result Identical Identical

Pro Tips for Best Results:

  • Start at 7% and adjust. Most printers find 7-9% delivers the ideal balance of open time, softness, and wash fastness. Use 4-6% for a lighter touch or when adding other individual additives alongside it.
  • Keep humidity at 35% or above. Quick Additive extends open time, but shop humidity plays a major role too. If your shop is dry, consider a humidifier in the print area in addition to using Quick Additive.
  • Use with discharge workflows too. Quick Additive works alongside discharge activator in Matsui discharge inks. It keeps the ink open and workable during the print run while the activator handles the dye-stripping chemistry.
  • Ideal for halftone printing. The Thickener B component helps hold your dot and prevent gain. For dedicated halftone work, you can also add a small amount of standalone Thickener B (0.25-0.5%) on top of Quick Additive for even more dot control.
  • Do not forget water-resistant emulsion. Like all Matsui water-based inks, use a water-resistant emulsion such as Chromaline CPTex or Chromaline Hydro-X to prevent stencil breakdown on press.
  • Flood your screens during breaks. Even with Quick Additive extending open time, if you need to pause production, leave your screens flooded with ink to maintain moisture and prevent drying.
  • Mix in clean vessels only. Contamination from other ink sources or non-approved additives can cause inks to test positive for restricted PVCs, voiding brand compliance.
