Matsui Fixer V | Wash & Crock Fastness Crosslinker for Polyurethane Water-Based Screen Printing Inks

Matsui

Matsui Fixer V — Fixer V is a crosslinker formulated specifically for polyurethane (PU) binder water-based inks. ⚠️ It is NOT compatible with standard Matsui acrylic inks and is NOT interchangeable with Fixer WF-N. The Matsui 350 Series uses a PU rubber binder instead of the standard acrylic binder — this fundamentally different chemistry requires a different fixer. Using Fixer WF-N on PU inks, or Fixer V on acrylic inks, will result in inadequate wash fastness.

🎯 Problem it solves: Poor wash and crock fastness in polyurethane (PU) binder water-based inks — specifically the Matsui 350 Series (Soft-Tex White 350, Clear 350G, Clear 350B).

Description

Matsui Fixer V

Fixer V is a crosslinker formulated specifically for polyurethane (PU) binder water-based inks.

What It Does

🧺
Wash Fastness for PU Inks
Crosslinks the polyurethane binder during heat curing — creating the durable bonds between ink and fabric that give the 350 Series its extreme-stretch wash durability.
🤸
Maintains PU Elasticity
Unlike acrylic crosslinkers, Fixer V crosslinks the PU binder without compromising the rubber-like elasticity that defines the 350 Series. The cured ink film remains fully elastic.
💪
Crock Fastness
Improves resistance to color transfer when wet or dry fabric rubs against the print — important for athletic and compression garments subject to friction during wear.

When to Use This Additive

Only with Matsui 350 Series polyurethane binder inks: Soft-Tex White 350 (WS0542), Clear 350G, and Clear 350B. Do NOT use with any other Matsui ink. Do NOT substitute Fixer WF-N for Fixer V on these inks.

💊 Dosage
2–3% by weight of total ink
✅ Compatible Inks
⚠️ Matsui 350 Series PU binder inks ONLY. Not compatible with acrylic inks.
⚠️ Limits
2–3% dosage. Do not exceed 3%. Keep total additives under 15%.

The Complete Matsui Additive Lineup — All 13

Every water-based printing problem has an additive that fixes it. Here is the full lineup with dosages and what each solves:

AdditiveDosageWhat It Solves
Quick Additive6–9%All-in-one: open time + wash fastness + soft hand. Best starting point for most jobs.
Retarder MG1–5%Prevents ink drying in screen. Extends open time on press.
Fixer WF-N1–5%Improves wash fastness. Lowers cure temp to 300°F (150°C). Most common fixer.
Softener MG1–4%Improves fabric penetration. Softer hand feel and better adhesion.
RV Additive1–3%Reduces viscosity without weakening resin. Better flow and fabric penetration.
Thickener B0.25–1%Increases viscosity. Controls halftone dot spread. Fine-detail work.
Fixer L1–3%Lowers cure temp to 250°F. For electric dryers or heat-sensitive fabrics.
Fixer V ← This Product2–3%⚠️ For PU binder inks ONLY (Soft-Tex 350 series). NOT interchangeable with Fixer WF-N.
Retarder SP-1 / FlowVariesImproves flow of thick inks without reducing viscosity. For high-viscosity bases.
Emacol R-600-EVariesLong-bodied thickener for halftone dot retention. Alternative to Thickener B.
Puff Foaming Base HTVariesCreates 3D puff effect when flash-heated. Mix with any water-based ink.
Phantom ClearStandaloneDisappears when dry. Reappears when wet (sweat). For activewear specialty prints.
Discharge Activator3–8%⚠️ REQUIRED for discharge mode. Enables chemistry on dark 100% cotton. 12-hr pot life.
💡 Rule: Do not exceed 15% total additives in any ink batch. Complete additive guide with dosage charts, stacking rules, and FAQ →

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why can’t I use Fixer WF-N with Soft-Tex White 350?
Fixer WF-N is formulated to crosslink acrylic binder chemistry. The Matsui 350 Series uses polyurethane (PU) binder chemistry — a fundamentally different polymer system. Fixer WF-N will not effectively crosslink PU binders, resulting in poor wash fastness. Fixer V is specifically formulated for PU chemistry.
Can I use Fixer V on my standard Matsui inks (Alpha, Infinity, white inks)?
No. Fixer V is formulated for PU binder inks. Using it on standard acrylic inks will not provide proper crosslinking for those inks. Use Fixer WF-N for all standard Matsui acrylic inks.
What Matsui inks use PU binder?
The Matsui 350 Series: Soft-Tex White 350 (WS0542), Clear 350G, and Clear 350B. All other Matsui inks (Alpha, Infinity, Neo, all white inks, all bases) use acrylic binder and require Fixer WF-N.
