Franmar UN-Lok® Screen Unlocker – Rescue Locked Emulsion, Ghosting & Haze Without Remeshing

Franmar

UN-Lok is what you use when standard emulsion remover has failed. Locked emulsion — where heat, over-exposure, or chemical reaction has fused the emulsion to the mesh — doesn’t respond to Strip-e-doo or other standard removers. UN-Lok’s thick gel formula penetrates the hardened emulsion and works in 30 minutes or less. The gel stays wet for up to 24 hours, so you can apply it and come back when convenient.

Description

Franmar UN-Lok® Screen Unlocker

Every screen printing shop has screens that get written off — emulsion that locked in from overexposure, heat, solvent contamination, or just age. UN-Lok exists to save those screens. The gel formula clings to the mesh surface, penetrates hardened emulsion over time, and breaks it down without aggressive power washing. Apply liberally, wait 10–30 minutes (up to 24 hours for extreme cases), scrub, and pressure wash. Most screens come back to production condition.

Gel Formula Stays Active

Unlike liquid chemicals that run off or dry out, UN-Lok’s gel clings to the screen and stays wet and active for up to 24 hours.

Saves Screens from Remeshing

Eliminating even one remeshing job more than pays for a bottle. UN-Lok routinely recovers screens that would otherwise be written off.

Works in 30 Minutes or Less

Most locked emulsion situations resolve in 30 minutes. For extreme cases, longer dwell time is available.

Capillary Film Failures

Effective on capillary films and indirect emulsions in addition to direct and dual-cure systems.

Lid Functions as Applicator

The container lid doubles as a measured applicator, making it easy to apply without additional tools.

Low Odor

Safer to use in enclosed screen rooms without heavy ventilation requirements.

How to Use Franmar UN-Lok

Step 1 — Apply Liberally

Apply UN-Lok liberally to both sides of the locked emulsion screen, using the lid as an applicator. Cover all locked areas.

Step 2 — Dwell 10–30 Minutes

Allow UN-Lok to sit undisturbed for 10–30 minutes. For heavily locked screens, leave for up to several hours or overnight.

Step 3 — Scrub

Gently scrub with a Biggee™ scrub pad to help break down the loosened emulsion.

Step 4 — Pressure Wash

Wash with a power washer or hose with pressure nozzle. The combination of UN-Lok and pressure removes the unlocked emulsion.

Step 5 — Repeat if Needed

For stubborn areas, repeat the application and dwell process.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What’s the difference between Strip-e-doo and UN-Lok?

Strip-e-doo is your standard emulsion remover for routine reclaim. UN-Lok is the rescue product for screens where emulsion has locked in and standard chemistry won’t work. Use Strip-e-doo every reclaim; use UN-Lok when Strip-e-doo fails.

How do I know if emulsion is locked?

If standard emulsion remover and pressure washing leaves emulsion in the mesh, it’s locked. Common causes: overexposure, heat damage, solvent contamination (mineral spirits), or very old hardened emulsion.

How long should I leave UN-Lok on the screen?

Minimum 10–30 minutes for normal locked emulsion. Overnight (up to 24 hours) for severe cases. The gel stays active and wet, so there’s no penalty for longer dwell time.

Do I need a power washer?

High-pressure water is recommended for removing loosened emulsion. A pressure nozzle on a garden hose works; a dedicated power washer works best.

Can UN-Lok damage the mesh?

No. It is designed to be safe on all mesh types when used as directed.
