Description

Film Quality Is Not Optional — It’s Half the Transfer

DTF film is not a commodity. A cheap, poorly coated film feeds inconsistently, holds ink unevenly, and releases badly — producing transfers with rough edges, poor adhesion, or blotchy powder coverage. STS V8 film was developed and tested specifically to work with STS XPD2 inks and the XPD-924D’s vacuum conveyor feeding system. The double-sided matte construction solves the static and grip problems that plague single-coat films, and the instant hot/cold peel capability gives your operators the flexibility to run faster or maximize bond strength depending on the job.

V8 Film Technical Advantages

✅ Double-Sided Matte Construction

The standard for premium DTF film. Matte coating on the print side gives ink a controlled, consistent surface to land on. Matte coating on the reverse side improves printer roller grip and reduces the electrostatic charge buildup that causes misfeeding and film buckling in wide-format printers.

✅ Instant Hot OR Cold Peel

Hot peel: remove the film immediately after pressing while still warm. This speeds up production significantly — no waiting for the transfer to cool. Cold peel: wait 10–30 seconds for the transfer to cool before peeling. Cold peel typically produces slightly stronger adhesion and is better for delicate or stretch fabrics. V8 supports both methods.

✅ Superior Ink Adhesion Surface

The print-side coating controls ink spread precisely — preventing bleeding, maintaining fine detail, and ensuring that white ink lays down a flat, even base. Ink that doesn’t spread stays where you put it, giving you sharper logos, cleaner gradients, and more accurate color.

✅ Consistent Powder Adhesion

After printing, DTF powder must stick uniformly to the wet ink surface. V8’s coating is formulated to hold powder evenly across the print area without creating bare spots or excess clumping — the two most common causes of patchy adhesion on finished transfers.

✅ Static-Controlled Feeding

Wide-format DTF film feeding relies on static levels being predictable and low. STS V8’s double-sided matte construction significantly reduces static buildup compared to glossy or single-coat films, resulting in straight, consistent feeding through the XPD-924D’s media transport system.

✅ Production-Ready 328 ft Roll

At 328 linear feet per roll, V8 minimizes the number of roll changes during production runs. For the XPD-924D running at 22 ft/hr in Production mode, a single roll provides approximately 14–15 hours of continuous printing — a full shift and then some.

Hot Peel vs. Cold Peel — Which Should You Use?

⚡ Hot Peel — Speed First

Peel the film immediately after pressing while the transfer is still warm. Best for high-volume production runs on cotton and cotton-blend garments where throughput speed matters. Slightly lower bond strength than cold peel — but more than adequate for most production jobs.

Best on: Cotton, cotton blends, standard t-shirts
☃ Cold Peel — Bond First

Wait 10–30 seconds after pressing for the transfer to cool before peeling. Cold peel allows the TPU adhesive to fully solidify and grip the fabric fiber before the film is removed — maximizing bond strength. Recommended for polyester, nylon, stretch fabrics, and any application where wash durability is critical.

Best on: Polyester, nylon, athletic wear, dark garments

Storage:
Store unused film rolls in their original packaging in a cool, dry environment. Keep vertical (never lay flat for extended periods). Avoid humidity above 60% and direct sunlight. Film that has absorbed moisture will feed poorly and produce adhesion problems.
Print Side:
Always print on the matte side. The smoother reverse side feeds against the printer rollers. On V8 film, both sides have a matte finish — the print side is the slightly rougher/more textured side. When in doubt, test print a small section first.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions — STS 24″ DTF Film V8

What is the difference between V7, V8, EV1, and KV1 film?

All STS 24″ films are double-sided matte with hot/cold peel capability, but they have slightly different coating formulations that affect release characteristics, powder adhesion, and compatibility with specific ink or environmental conditions. V8 is a high-production standard formula. For most shops running the XPD-924D, V8 or EV1 is the go-to. Call (512) 454-0505 for a recommendation based on your specific setup.

Is V8 film only for the STS XPD-924D?

V8 is optimized for the XPD-924D but is compatible with any 24″ wide-format DTF printer using a vacuum conveyor or roller feed system. It is NOT designed for desktop DTF printers — use a 13″ film for desktop systems.

How do I know which side to print on?

Print on the matte side — the side with slightly more texture. On V8 film, both sides are matte, but the print side has a finer, more receptive coating. When loading the roll, the print surface should face the printhead. When in doubt, your RIP software settings and printer manual specify media orientation.

Should I use hot peel or cold peel?

For most cotton and cotton-blend t-shirts in a production environment, hot peel is fine and speeds things up. For polyester, athletic wear, nylon, or any stretch fabric, use cold peel — let the transfer cool 15–30 seconds before peeling to allow the TPU to fully set and grip the fibers.

How many transfers does a 328ft roll produce?

At 24.5″ wide, a 328ft (100m) roll provides approximately 100 meters of printable film. A 12″ tall full-front design in portrait orientation allows approximately 328 prints per roll. Gang sheets with smaller designs produce significantly more transfers per roll.

Does this film ship from River City Supply or STS directly?

STS DTF film drop ships directly from STS Inks in Boca Raton, Florida. Orders placed before 3:30 PM CT typically ship same day. Free shipping on orders over $200.
