Why LBX 98885 Fluorescent Purple?

Maximum Neon Impact

Fluorescent pigments absorb UV and short-wave visible light and re-emit it as visible light — producing a brightness standard pigments can’t match. LBX Flo Purple delivers an electric, eye-catching purple under daylight and an intense glow under blacklight.

Built for the Pantone Mixing System

LBX 98885 is an engineered mixing base formulated to combine predictably with other LBX inks. Use the free formulator at formulator.screenprintsupplies.com to get gram-weight ratios for any fluorescent Pantone target. Repeatable results run after run.

Low Cure for Performance Fabrics

Full cure at 280°F means you can safely print on polyester, tri-blends, and athletic wear without scorching fabric or damaging heat-sensitive treatments. Lower cure temps also reduce dye migration risk on poly garments.

Clean, Consistent Printability

Smooth body holds detail from 86 to 160 mesh. Flashes quickly without ghosting or sticking to the platen — whether printing it straight as a neon spot color or as part of a complex multi-color fluorescent job.

Available Sizes

  • QQuart (32 oz) — Great for shops adding fluorescent purple or running smaller neon accent jobs
  • GGallon (128 oz) — Standard production size for regular fluorescent and Pantone mixing work
  • 55-Gallon Pail — High-volume contract shops running neon programs and event merch at scale

See It in Action

Printing with LBX 98885 Fluorescent Purple

Step 1 — Screen Prep

Use 110–160 mesh. A thicker stencil EOM deposits more ink for a more saturated fluorescent result — especially important over an underbase on dark garments.

Step 2 — Print

Use a 70–75 durometer squeegee at moderate pressure. Fluorescent inks are naturally thinner-bodied — avoid over-squeegeeing to preserve deposit thickness and color saturation.

Step 3 — Flash (If Needed)

Flash to dry-to-touch only. Keep flash times short — fluorescent pigments are sensitive to prolonged heat exposure, which reduces vibrancy.

Step 4 — Cure at 280°F

Full cure at 280°F internal ink temp. Use a donut probe to verify — overcuring fluorescent inks dulls the color noticeably. Don’t exceed the target temp.

Where Fluorescent Purple Wins

Concert & Festival Merch

High-energy event apparel where neon colors dominate. Under stage lighting and blacklights, fluorescent purple is impossible to ignore.

Rave & UV Event Wear

Glow parties, UV runs, and nightclub promotions. Fluorescent purple glows intensely under UV-A blacklight — print on white for maximum effect.

Fluorescent Pantone Mixing

Mix with LBX Flo Pink for neon violet. Mix with LBX Flo Blue for electric blue-purple targets. Use the free formulator for precise Pantone ratios.

Athletic & Spirit Wear

Schools and teams with purple in their palette that want a neon-intensity version for spirit wear, homecoming, and special event apparel.

⚠ Don’t Overcure Fluorescents

Exceeding 280°F internal temp degrades fluorescent pigments and dulls the color. Use a donut probe to verify ink temp — not a surface gun. Dial in your belt speed carefully before running the full job.

⚠ Always Underbase on Dark Garments

Fluorescent inks are semi-transparent. On any garment darker than light gray, print a white or gray underbase first. Without it, the substrate kills the fluorescent effect entirely.

LBX 98885 Is a Pantone Mixing Ink — Not Just a Color

LBX Flo Purple is an engineered mixing base — one of 15 fully inter-mixable LBX inks designed to hit specific Pantone targets by weight. Use the free LBX Pantone Color Formulator to get exact gram-weight mix ratios instantly. No guessing. No waste. Repeatable run after run.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What makes fluorescent purple different from a standard purple plastisol?

Fluorescent inks use pigments that absorb UV and short-wave visible light and re-emit it as visible light — producing a brightness standard pigments can’t achieve. The result is a purple that looks electric under daylight and glows intensely under blacklight. Standard purple is rich; fluorescent purple is neon.

Do I need an underbase when printing on dark garments?

Yes — always. Fluorescent inks are semi-transparent and cannot block a dark substrate on their own. Print a white or gray underbase first, flash it fully, then print the fluorescent purple on top. Without an underbase the substrate kills the neon effect entirely.

Will LBX Flo Purple glow under blacklight?

Yes. Fluorescent plastisols are UV-reactive and produce a vivid glow under UV-A blacklight. For maximum glow intensity, print on a white garment or over a white underbase. This makes LBX Flo Purple ideal for glow parties, UV runs, nightclub promotions, and rave apparel.

Can I use LBX 98885 on polyester and performance wear?

Yes — full cure at 280°F means it won’t scorch poly fabrics or damage heat-sensitive treatments. The lower cure temp also reduces dye migration risk on polyester garments compared to standard-cure inks running at 320°F.

Why did my fluorescent purple look dull after curing?

Overcuring is the most common cause. If the ink exceeds 280°F, the fluorescent pigments degrade and lose vibrancy. Verify internal ink temp with a donut probe — not a surface gun. Also confirm you printed on a white or light base; dark substrates without an underbase always produce flat results.

Does River City Supply ship same day?

Yes — orders placed before 3:30 PM CT Monday through Friday ship the same day. Free shipping applies automatically on orders over $200. Call us at (512) 454-0505 or email [email protected] with any questions.
