Nortech Newman Roller Frame Locking Strip 50ft Roll
Nortech
The Nortech Newman Roller Frame Locking Strip (50ft Roll) is the essential consumable that makes mesh installation on Newman roller frames possible without adhesive. Precision-engineered to fit the Newman M3 roller frame T-slot channel, this universal locking strip mechanically clamps mesh into the frame with a positive lock rated at 100 Newtons/cm — no glue, no chemical degradation, no joint failure. This universal strip is for mesh counts 86 and above. Cut from a 50ft roll to exact frame side length.
Mesh count selection: This universal strip is for mesh counts 86 and above. For coarse mesh counts below 86, a narrow black locking strip with a slightly thinner profile is required. Call us at (512) 454-0505 if unsure.
Note: Mesh and roller frame are not included. For ready-to-install panels, see our Hi-Dro M3 pre-woven panels or Hi-Tex M3 pre-woven panels with locking strips already attached.

Description
The Consumable That Makes the Whole Newman Roller Frame System Work
The Newman roller frame’s genius is the locking strip. No adhesive. No glue joints. No chemical failure. The strip is pressed into the T-slot channel alongside the mesh, mechanically clamping it in place with a positive lock rated at 100 Newtons/cm. It’s what allows the frame to be retensioned hundreds of times, reclaimed with full chemical exposure, and run through dip tanks without the mesh separating. This 50ft roll gives you the material to install mesh yourself, replace worn strips, or stock a consumable that production shops burn through regularly.
📦 What’s Included
One (1) 50ft roll of Nortech universal locking strip for Newman M3 roller frame T-slot channels. Compatible with mesh counts 86 and above. Cut to frame side length before installation. Mesh and roller frame are not included.
Which Locking Strip Do You Need? Universal vs. Narrow
Newman roller frames use two locking strip profiles depending on mesh count. Selecting the correct strip is critical — the wrong strip will not secure properly in the T-slot channel for your mesh type.
| Strip Type | Universal / HD Strip (This Product) | Narrow / Black Strip |
|---|---|---|
| Color | White / Clear | Black |
| Mesh Count Range | 86 and above (83+ per Stretch Devices) | Below 86 (60 or lower per Stretch Devices) |
| Strip Profile | Standard width | Slightly thinner — for coarse open mesh |
| Entrance Tool Needed? | No | Recommended for coarse mesh |
| Typical Use | 110, 157, 158, 180, 196, 230, 305 mesh | Very coarse specialty mesh 60 and below |
Still not sure? For all standard screen printing mesh counts (110 through 305), this universal strip is the correct choice. Call us at (512) 454-0505 before ordering if you print with coarse mesh under 60 count.
Why No-Adhesive Locking Strips Are the Right System
🔒 100 N/cm Positive Lock
The mechanical clamping action holds mesh at high tension without relying on adhesive bond strength. At Newman M3’s 85 Newton maximum, the strip maintains its grip through thousands of retensioning and reclaiming cycles.
🧪 Full Chemical Resistance
Screen cleaning solvents, emulsion removers, ink degradants, and dip tank chemicals will destroy adhesive bonds over time. The locking strip has no adhesive to degrade — it stays fully functional through your entire reclaim workflow.
🔄 Retension Without Limit
No adhesive joint to fatigue means mesh can be removed and reinstalled as many times as needed. New mesh, new strip, tension back to spec. The frame itself has no end-of-life from the retensioning process.
🏊 Dip Tank Safe
All Newman roller frames are 100% sealed. Combined with no-adhesive locking strips, the entire screen can go through dip tanks without any risk of mesh releasing due to adhesive failure.
✂️ Cut to Exact Length
Each strip is cut from the 50ft roll to match the exact length of each frame side. One roll covers multiple frame sizes and eliminates waste from pre-cut strips that don’t match your frame dimensions.
💰 Most Economical Approach
High-volume shops using bulk mesh rolls with locking strips achieve the lowest per-screen cost. The 50ft roll covers multiple frames and the strip is a low-cost consumable relative to the mesh it secures.
Step-by-Step: How to Install Locking Strips on Newman M3 Roller Frames
Follow Newman’s documented installation process for consistent, even tension on all four sides.
Step 1 — Position Alignment Clips
Place Newman Alignment Clips at each end and center of the T-slot. These guide the mesh and keep threads parallel and square to the frame during locking strip insertion.
Step 2 — Measure Mesh Overhang
Use the locking strip as a measuring tool. Set 2 to 3 inches of mesh overhang beyond the T-slot at both ends. Equal overhang ensures threads run parallel and perpendicular to the frame sides.
Step 3 — Insert Right to Left
Insert the locking strip from right to left. While inserting, pull gently on the mesh in the opposite direction — this keeps threads straight. Use a soft mallet if needed. Never push Alignment Clips along the slot.
Step 4 — Remove Clips as You Go
Remove each Alignment Clip as the locking strip reaches it. Do not push clips along with the strip — remove and reposition ahead of the advancing strip.
Step 5 — Pre-Soften Corners
Before tensioning, pre-soften corners using the yellow softening tool. This is a critical step — unsoftened corners are the most common cause of mesh tearing during the stretching process.
Step 6 — Tension with Torque Wrench
Complete all four sides before tensioning. Then use a torque wrench — M3 black bolts: 55 ft/lbs max. Trim excess mesh to 1 inch after final tensioning. Never use a ratchet in place of a torque wrench.
Pro tip: Always use a torque wrench set to spec — not a ratchet. A ratchet provides no torque feedback and is the most common cause of over-tensioning and frame damage. M3 black bolts: 55 ft/lbs max. MZX black bolts: 35 ft/lbs max.
Pre-Woven Panels vs. Locking Strip + Bulk Mesh — Which Is Right for Your Shop?
📦 Pre-Woven Panels — Fastest and Easiest
✔
Locking strip already sewn into mesh edge — install directly
✔
Factory-consistent thread alignment square to frame edge
✗
Higher per-panel cost than bulk mesh
Best for: most shops — fastest path to a properly tensioned screen with no alignment experience needed.
🔗 Locking Strip + Bulk Mesh — Most Economical
✔
Lowest cost-per-screen for high-volume mesh consumption
✔
Replace worn or broken strips on existing frames
✗
Requires proper installation technique and alignment tools
Best for: high-volume shops consuming many panels monthly, and shops replacing strips on existing frames.
When Do Locking Strips Need to Be Replaced?
⚠️ Mesh Slipping During Tensioning
Mesh releasing from the channel during stretching means the strip has lost its grip — worn down, damaged, or wrong strip for your mesh count.
⚠️ Visible Strip Damage
Cracked, brittle, or deformed strips after extended chemical exposure or physical damage should be replaced before installing new mesh.
⚠️ Inconsistent Tension Across Frame
If you can’t achieve even tension despite proper torque, a worn or partially released strip on one side is often the culprit — not the frame or mesh.
✔ Routine Mesh Changeout from Bulk Rolls
Every time you install new mesh from a bulk roll, you’ll cut and install fresh locking strips on all four sides. Stock this roll so you’re never waiting on a reorder.
✔ New Frame Setup
New Newman M3 frames should come with strips installed. If you’re setting up bare frames, this roll gives you everything for the initial installation.
