Matsui Clear SWR (WS0574) | Water-Based Clear Mixing Base for Water-Repellent Fabrics — Nylon Windbreakers, Coated Polyester, DWR-Treated Outerwear — Mix with Neo Pigments for Custom Colors, Soft Hand, PVC-Free

Matsui

Matsui Clear SWR (WS0574) is a water-based transparent clear mixing base engineered specifically for printing on water-repellent fabrics — DWR-treated outerwear, nylon windbreakers, coated polyester athletic wear, and performance fabrics that cause standard water-based inks to bead up and fail. Clear SWR is the transparent base used to create custom colors on light and medium DWR-treated garments by mixing with Matsui Neo Pigments (up to 15%). It carries the same modified PU binder as White SWR for DWR adhesion, but is fully transparent — not an opaque white. ⚠️ Requires Fixer V (not Fixer WF-N) for wash fastness. Mesh 135/inch. PVC-free.

🎯 Problem it solves: You need custom-color water-based prints on light or medium DWR-treated performance fabrics — without an opaque white underbase.
⚠️ Critical: Add Fixer V at 2–3% for wash fastness. SWR inks use PU binder — Fixer WF-N will NOT work. Do NOT substitute.

Description

Matsui Clear SWR — Custom Colors on Performance Fabrics

Clear SWR is the transparent mixing base of the Matsui SWR system. Where White SWR provides an opaque white foundation, Clear SWR is fully transparent — it carries the SWR PU binder chemistry for DWR adhesion without the white pigment load. Mix up to 15% Neo Pigments into Clear SWR to create any custom color that prints directly on light or medium DWR-treated performance fabrics. The same fluoropolymer-penetrating chemistry that makes White SWR bond to DWR surfaces is built into Clear SWR — but without the white, so colors are transparent to the fabric color below.

Key Features

🔗
Bonds to DWR-Treated Fabrics
Modified PU binder chemistry adheres to DWR-treated nylon, coated polyester, and moisture-wicking athletic wear where standard inks bead up and fail.
🎨
Transparent Color Mixing Base
Clear SWR is the base you mix Neo Pigments into for custom colors. Fully transparent — the fabric color shows through, so it works best on light and medium garments.
🌈
Mix with Neo Pigments
Add up to 15% Matsui Neo Pigments by weight to create vibrant custom colors for DWR-fabric printing. Any Neo pigment works in Clear SWR.
🤲
Soft Hand Feel
PU binder chemistry produces a soft, flexible cured ink film — essential on stretch performance fabrics that standard inks crack or peel on.
🌿
PVC-Free
Water-based, eco-friendly PU binder formulation. OEKO-TEX® compliant.
⚠️
Fixer V Required
PU binder ink — Fixer V (2–3%) is the correct fixer. Fixer WF-N will NOT crosslink PU binders and will result in poor wash fastness.

📊 Clear SWR vs. White SWR — When to Use Each

Use Clear SWR when:
  • Printing on light or medium DWR fabrics
  • Mixing custom colors from Neo Pigments
  • A transparent ink film is acceptable
  • No white underbase is needed
Use White SWR when:
  • Printing on dark DWR fabrics
  • Opacity is required
  • Printing white as a standalone spot color
  • Using as opaque tintable base for dark garments

Color Creation — Mixing Clear SWR with Neo Pigments

  1. Start with Clear SWR as your base.
  2. Add up to 15% Matsui Neo Pigments by weight. Mix thoroughly.
  3. Add Fixer V at 2–3%. Mix thoroughly.
  4. Add Retarder MG (1–5%) if needed for open time.
  5. Print a test on your specific DWR fabric. Fully cure. Wash test before production.

Because Clear SWR is transparent, colors are influenced by the fabric color underneath. On white or light fabrics, Neo Pigment colors in Clear SWR appear as vibrant spot colors. On colored fabrics, the clear base means colors mix visually with the fabric color below.

Recommended Additives

⚠️ Fixer V — not Fixer WF-N: SWR inks use PU binder. Fixer WF-N crosslinks acrylic binders only — it will NOT work with SWR inks. Always use Fixer V at 2–3%.
AdditiveDosagePurpose
Fixer V2–3%⚠️ REQUIRED for wash fastness on SWR inks. Fixer V is the correct fixer for PU binder inks — do NOT substitute Fixer WF-N.
Retarder MG1–5%Extends open time — prevents ink drying in screen during longer runs.
Thickener B0.25–1%Increases viscosity for halftone dot retention if needed.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What fabrics is Clear SWR designed for?

Water-repellent (DWR) treated fabrics — nylon windbreakers, coated polyester outerwear, water-resistant jackets, DWR-treated performance garments, and coated nylon bags/accessories. If the fabric is designed to repel water, you need SWR.

Can I use standard water-based ink on nylon windbreakers instead?

No — standard water-based inks (301C, Stretch, EasyPrint, Infinity, Alpha) are designed for cotton, cotton-poly, and untreated polyester. On water-repellent coated surfaces, standard inks will not bond properly — they will bead up, crack, or peel. SWR is specifically formulated to adhere to these slick, coated surfaces.

Can I mix custom colors with Clear SWR?

Yes — mix up to 15% Neo Pigments into Clear SWR for translucent custom Pantone®-matched colors on water-repellent fabrics. Use CMS Software for Pantone formulas. For more opaque custom colors, mix pigments into White SWR instead.

What is the difference between Clear SWR and White SWR?

Clear SWR is a translucent mixing base — the garment color shows through the print. Best for light water-repellent fabrics. White SWR is an opaque white — provides full coverage on dark water-repellent fabrics. Use White SWR when you need opacity, Clear SWR when you want translucency.

Can I print Clear SWR on dark water-repellent fabrics?

You can, but the colors will be muted and dark because the garment color shows through the translucent ink. For dark water-repellent fabrics, White SWR (as a standalone white or as a mixing white with Neo Pigments) will give much better results.

What mesh should I use?

135 mesh.

How long does shipping take?

⚠️ This product drop ships from Matsui out of Gardena, California and may take 2-3 extra days to ship beyond standard shipping times.

What additives should I use?

Use Quick Additive (6-9%) for an all-in-one solution. Or individual additives: Retarder MG (1-5%), Fixer WF-N (1-5%), Softener MG (1-4%).
