PMI #560 RED Screen Printers Tape — 3″ × 60yd

🇺🇸 Made in the USA · Proprietary UV-Cured Adhesive · BOPP Red Film · Universal Performance · All Inks · All Emulsions

The PMI #560 RED Tape is PMI Tape’s newest product — Made in the USA at PMI’s Noblesville, IN facility — and it represents a real breakthrough in screen-printer tape technology. PMI engineered a brand-new proprietary UV-cured adhesive on a red BOPP (biaxially oriented polypropylene) film backing. The soft adhesive is designed to flow deeply into the mesh weave for superior sealing in applications where higher adhesion is required, yet still leaves no residue on removal for reclaim. The result is the first PMI tape engineered as a true universal solution: one tape that works consistently across all ink types, all emulsion systems, all humidity levels, and all shop temperatures.

Why the 3″ Width?

The 3″ PMI #560 RED is the workhorse of the line and the size that production shops burn through fastest. One strip of 3″ tape covers the inside of a standard aluminum or roller frame channel AND extends a clean inch onto the mesh edge — in one pass, no second strip needed. If your shop is running 20×24 or 23×31 frames as your standard production size (which is most textile and graphic shops in North America), the 3″ #560 RED is the right primary width to stock.

Best for at this width:
The production workhorse width — covers frame channel masking and mesh edge sealing in a single strip on standard 20×24 and 23×31 production frames. The most-stocked PMI tape width in working shops.

What Makes the PMI #560 RED’s Adhesive Different

This is the part that matters: the #560 RED is not the same construction as PMI’s 451 Split or 451FA Full Adhesive tapes with a red pigment swapped in. PMI engineered a completely new adhesive system for this product — a proprietary UV-cured adhesive on a red BOPP film backing, with adhesion measured at 16 oz/in and tensile strength at 24.94 oz/in. Per the PMI Technical Data Sheet, “PMI RED Tape has a soft adhesive which is designed to flow well into the mesh. This allows the tape to work well in applications where a higher adhesion is required. This soft adhesive is also designed to leave no residue when removed for reclaim.” Here’s what that delivers:

Proprietary UV-Cured Adhesive Flows Into the Mesh
PMI’s new adhesive is a proprietary UV-cured formulation — not a standard pressure-sensitive acrylic or rubber adhesive. The soft chemistry has the flow characteristics needed to penetrate deeply into the mesh weave during application, creating mechanical interlock between the tape and the mesh threads. This is what delivers the higher adhesion needed for applications where standard tape would lift mid-run.
Leaves NO Residue on Reclaim — The Engineering Trick
Despite the deep mesh flow, the UV-cured cross-linking means the adhesive bonds firmly during the run but releases cleanly on removal. According to PMI’s own tech sheet: “designed to leave no residue when removed for reclaim.” You get the seal of an aggressive adhesive AND the clean removal of a low-tack tape — previously these were trade-offs.
16 oz/in Adhesion Strength
Per the PMI Technical Data Sheet, the #560 RED measures 16 oz/in adhesion — substantially higher than standard pressure-sensitive screen tape. This is the spec that matters for shops running long automatic press runs with water-based, discharge, or HSA inks where weaker tapes lift partway through.
24.94 oz/in Tensile Strength
The red BOPP (biaxially oriented polypropylene) film backing tests at 24.94 oz/in tensile strength. BOPP is dimensionally stable, doesn’t stretch under tension during application, and tears cleanly when you snap or scissor-cut it at the end of a tape run. Won’t shred, fray, or split.
Compatible With All Inks AND All Emulsions
PMI’s tech sheet states directly: “compatible with all emulsion and ink types.” Tested across plastisol, water-based, discharge, HSA, and UV inks; releases cleanly from PVA-SBQ photopolymer, diazo, dual-cure, and capillary film stencils.
Made in the USA
Manufactured by PMI Tape (Advanced Screen Technologies, Inc.) in Noblesville, IN. American-made adhesive technology, American manufacturing, supporting American screen-print supply distribution. Not an import.

One Tape, All Conditions — The Universal Positioning

PMI Tape’s positioning for the #560 RED is direct: this is engineered to be the only screen tape you need to stock. Here are the four variables that historically force shops to stock multiple tapes, and how the #560 RED handles each:

VariableWhy It Usually Forces a Tape SwapHow the #560 RED Handles It
Ink TypePlastisol is forgiving on tape; water-based and discharge soak into traditional adhesives; UV inks can degrade certain adhesives during cure cycles; HSA chemistry attacks rubber-based adhesivesNew adhesive resists water absorption AND UV ink chemistry AND solvent attack. One tape works for plastisol, water-based, discharge, HSA, and UV inks with no performance trade-off
Emulsion TypeSome tape adhesives lift photopolymer stencils on removal; others leave residue on diazo or dual-cure stencils; capillary film is especially delicateReleases cleanly from PVA-SBQ photopolymer, diazo, dual-cure, and capillary film without lifting stencil pieces
HumidityTraditional adhesives soften and slip in high summer humidity; get brittle and lose tack in dry winter conditions. Many shops swap tapes seasonallyFormulated for consistent performance across both humidity extremes — stays pliable in dry conditions, resists moisture absorption in humid conditions
Shop TemperatureTraditional pressure-sensitive adhesives have a narrow optimal temperature range. Cold morning startups slow the initial tack; hot afternoon production runs near dryers and flash units soften the bondAdhesive maintains consistent bond strength across the typical shop temperature range — from cool 60°F startups to hot 95°F production afternoons
The inventory simplification opportunity
If your shop currently stocks different tapes for different ink types, different seasons, or different production conditions, the #560 RED is positioned to consolidate that inventory. One SKU per width instead of multiple specialized tapes. Less screen-room clutter, fewer reorder decisions, simpler training for new crew members.

Why Red? The Color-Coded Workflow Bonus

Beyond the new adhesive technology, the bold red color gives you a secondary benefit: visual differentiation in the screen room. PMI’s standard tape colors (white, blue-stripe split, clear quick rip) all look similar across a screen rack. The #560 RED’s color enables color-coded workflows:

Color-Coded Production Workflow
Mark active production screens vs screens being held for the next job. Crew can instantly tell which screens are “hot” without checking job sheets.
Designate Ink-Type Screens
Many shops keep dedicated screens for water-based or discharge work to prevent plastisol contamination. Red tape on water-based screens, standard PMI white on plastisol screens.
Flag VIP Customer or Rush Jobs
Some shops use red tape to mark VIP customer screens, rush jobs, or screens reserved for repeat-order brands. The color stays visible across the entire screen rack.
Premium Shop Branding & Photography
Red-taped screens photograph dramatically better than white-taped screens for shop social media content. Also signals attention to detail during customer walkthroughs.

How to Apply the PMI #560 RED Tape Like a Pro

The application process is similar to any PMI screen-printer tape, but step 4 (smoothing down) is more important than ever with the new adhesive — firm pressure is what activates the deep mesh wet-out that gives the #560 RED its universal performance:

1
Clean the Frame and Mesh
Make sure the frame is dry and free of dust, ink residue, and solvent. The new adhesive wets best into clean mesh. If you’re taping over a freshly-reclaimed screen, give it 5-10 minutes to fully dry first.
2
Unroll — No Liner to Peel
PMI tapes are linerless — just unroll and apply. No paper backing to peel off. If you have a PMI dispenser, mount it within arm’s reach of your taping station.
3
Apply Along the Frame Edge or Mesh
Lay the tape down along the frame edge or across the open mesh you’re sealing. For frame channel masking, cover the inside channel and overlap onto the mesh. For pinhole coverage, place directly over the pinhole with about 1″ of mesh contact on each side.
4
Smooth Down Firmly — This Is Where the Magic Happens
Run a card squeegee, your thumb, or a clean rag firmly across the tape. This is what activates the new UV-cured adhesive to flow into the mesh. Firm contact pressure flows the adhesive into the mesh weave, creating the deep seal that prevents ink bleed-through.
5
Tear by Hand or Cut With Scissors
Once you reach the end of the tape run, tear by hand (start with a fingernail or razor) or cut with scissors. The BOPP film tears cleanly without shredding or stretching.
6
After the Run: Peel Off Clean, No Solvent
When the print run is done, lift a corner of the tape and peel it off in one smooth motion. The new adhesive lifts cleanly even after long production runs — no solvent, no scraping, no residue.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I order the 3″ width specifically?
Frame channel masking + mesh edge sealing in one strip — the 3″ width is the production-shop standard. One strip of 3″ covers the frame channel AND extends onto the mesh edge with proper margin, eliminating the need for a second pass with a narrower tape. If your shop’s primary need doesn’t match the 3″ width, see the PMI #560 RED Tape 2″ × 60yd or PMI #560 RED Tape 4″ × 60yd product pages.
Where is the PMI #560 RED Tape made?
Made in the USA — manufactured by PMI Tape (Advanced Screen Technologies, Inc.) at their facility in Noblesville, IN. American manufacturing, American supply chain, supporting American screen-print supply distribution.
What makes the PMI #560 RED Tape different from other PMI tapes?
The #560 RED uses a proprietary UV-cured adhesive on a red BOPP (biaxially oriented polypropylene) film backing — this is not the same adhesive or backing used in the PMI 451 Split Tape or 451FA Full Adhesive. Per the official PMI Technical Data Sheet, the adhesive is “designed to flow well into the mesh” for higher-adhesion applications, while still leaving no residue on removal. The new adhesive measures 16 oz/in adhesion and the BOPP backing has 24.94 oz/in tensile strength.
What is BOPP film, and why does it matter?
BOPP stands for Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene — a film stretched in both directions during manufacturing to create dimensional stability. BOPP doesn’t stretch under tension during application, tears cleanly when snapped or scissor-cut, and resists shredding. The red BOPP film backing on the #560 RED has measured tensile strength of 24.94 oz/in — meaning it stays put on the screen, won’t deform under press conditions, and removes cleanly when you peel it after the run.
How does the UV-cured adhesive work?
The adhesive is a proprietary UV-cured formulation — cured at the factory using ultraviolet light to cross-link the chemistry, rather than air-drying or solvent-evaporating like traditional pressure-sensitive adhesives. The result is a soft adhesive that flows deeply into the mesh weave during application (creating mechanical interlock with the mesh threads), but releases cleanly on removal because the cure profile prevents the adhesive from bonding permanently to the mesh material. Higher initial adhesion (16 oz/in) AND clean residue-free removal.
What are the dimensions of the 3″ case?
The 3″ case ships with 24 rolls, each 60 yards long. Case dimensions are 9″ × 15″ × 14″ and total case weight is 15 lbs — ships UPS Ground for most US destinations.
Is the #560 RED a replacement for PMI’s other tapes?
Not a complete replacement — the other PMI tapes still have specific advantages. PMI 451 Split Tape is still the best choice when you need a defined non-adhesive zone against the frame channel. PMI 321 Blockout Tape in 110-yard rolls is still the most cost-effective option for large blockout areas. PMI 260 Quick Rip is still the fastest hand-tear print-side tape. The #560 RED is the new universal option when you want one tape that works across all conditions.
Does the UV-cured adhesive leave residue on my mesh?
No — per the official PMI Technical Data Sheet: “This soft adhesive is also designed to leave no residue when removed for reclaim.” Despite the deep mesh wet-out and the 16 oz/in adhesion strength, the UV-cured cross-linking means the adhesive bonds during the run but releases cleanly when you peel it for reclaim.
Will the #560 RED work in my humid summer shop conditions?
Yes — the proprietary UV-cured adhesive maintains bond strength across the humidity range that typical screen-print shops experience. Traditional pressure-sensitive adhesives soften and slip in high humidity (especially with water-based inks where the mesh is constantly wet). The #560 RED’s UV-cured chemistry doesn’t absorb water the way standard adhesives do.
Does the #560 RED work with water-based and discharge inks?
Yes — per PMI’s tech sheet: “PMI RED Tape is compatible with all emulsion and ink types.” This includes water-based, discharge, plastisol, HSA, and UV inks. The UV-cured adhesive resists water absorption while still maintaining clean release on reclaim — particularly valuable for shops running water-based or discharge work as their primary ink system.
Is the #560 RED emulsion-safe?
Yes — per PMI’s tech sheet, it’s “compatible with all emulsion and ink types.” The adhesive releases cleanly from cured emulsion without pulling pieces of the stencil off the mesh. Tested with PVA-SBQ photopolymer, diazo, dual-cure, and capillary film stencils.
Will the red color transfer onto my mesh or stencil?
No. The red color is the BOPP film itself — it’s pigmented into the polypropylene during manufacture, not a coating or surface dye. It won’t transfer, bleed, or stain the mesh, emulsion, or your prints.
Why use red tape instead of white?
The red color enables color-coded screen room workflows: mark active production screens vs screens being held, designate water-based vs plastisol dedicated screens, flag VIP customer or rush jobs at a glance. Red also photographs dramatically better than white for shops sharing behind-the-scenes content on social media.
Do I need a special dispenser?
You don’t need one — but the PMI Tape Dispenser makes daily taping much faster. It holds rolls up to 4″ wide, including the 3″ #560 RED.
Where can I see the PMI #560 RED in action?
PMI Tape has two demonstration videos: Video 1 and Video 2. Both are embedded in the Description tab above. Also see the full PMI product page at pmitape.com/redtape.
Where can I download the Technical Data Sheet and Safety Data Sheet?
Both PMI #560 RED Tape documents are available as PDFs: Download TDS → (construction specs, adhesion ratings, tensile strength, material details) and Download SDS → (OSHA safety information, handling guidelines, shipping classification).
