Description

Bright. Soft. Stays That Way.

White is the most printed color in screen printing — and it’s also the easiest to get wrong. Too stiff. Too thin. Flashes uneven. Cracks after a few washes. Inktek LB020 Bright White solves all of it. A high-opacity formula that lays down a clean, luminous white with an ultra-soft hand that holds up wash after wash. Works as a standalone spot white on light and dark garments, and as a high-performance underbase for multi-color jobs on dark shirts. Ready straight from the container — no additives, no thinning, no prep required.

Why LB020 Bright White?

Maximum Brightness, Minimum Hand

LB020 is formulated to hit the highest brightness level possible without sacrificing softness. The ultra-soft hand feel stays flexible after cure — no cracking, no stiff patches, no plasticky texture that customers notice and complain about. Bright white that feels like it’s part of the shirt.

Spot White & Underbase in One Ink

Print it solo as a clean white spot color on any garment, or use it as the foundation underbase for your multi-color dark shirt jobs. High opacity blocks the substrate completely, giving your top colors a neutral surface to print on for accurate, vibrant results. One ink, two jobs.

Clean Flash Performance

Flashes quickly and cleanly to a dry-to-touch surface without over-gelling. No ghosting on the platen, no smearing when the next screen comes down, no uneven flash spots that ruin color accuracy on the top colors. Fast production, clean results, every run.

Low Cure for Cotton & Blends

Full cure at 280°F means lower energy costs, faster belt speeds, and safer operation on cotton-poly blends and heat-sensitive treated fabrics. Part of the Inktek LB Series — the same system used across the full 52-color lineup, all curing at the same 280°F temp.

Available Sizes

  • QQuart (32 oz) — Great for shops running white as an occasional spot color or testing LB020 before committing to larger volume
  • GGallon (128 oz) — The standard production size for shops running regular white spot color and underbase work
  • 55-Gallon Pail — High-volume contract shops running heavy white underbase programs on dark shirts daily

Using LB020 on Dark Garments

Step 1 — Print Underbase

Print LB020 through 86–110 mesh as your first-down underbase on dark or medium-tone garments. Use a 70/90/70 durometer squeegee for a clean, even deposit that covers the substrate completely.

Step 2 — Flash Cure

Flash at 180–220°F surface temp until fully dry-to-touch. LB020 flashes quickly — don’t over-dwell. You want a firm, tack-free surface but not a fully cured underbase, which reduces adhesion of your top colors.

Step 3 — Print Top Colors

Print your LB Series colors wet-on-flash over the white underbase. The bright white surface ensures your top colors print exactly as intended — vivid, accurate, and consistent from the first shirt to the last.

Step 4 — Full Cure at 280°F

Run through the conveyor dryer targeting 280°F internal ink temp. Verify with a donut probe or thermocouple. Do a stretch test and periodic wash tests to confirm full cure before shipping customer orders.

When to Use LB020 vs. a Gray Blocker

Use LB020 Bright White When…
  • Printing white as a standalone spot color on any garment
  • Underbasing on black, charcoal, navy, or dark colored cotton shirts
  • You need maximum brightness under top colors
  • Your job calls for a double-hit white for extra opacity on very dark shirts
  • 100% cotton garments where dye migration is not a concern
Consider a Gray Blocker When…
  • Printing on polyester or high-poly blends where dye migration is a risk
  • Your top colors need to hit Pantone targets with precision — gray base reads truer
  • Running athletic or performance wear with dye-sublimated or reactive-dyed fabrics
  • Experienced bleed-through or color shifting on poly-blend dark garments

⚠ Double-Hit for Maximum Coverage

On very dark shirts or when printing pastel and light-value colors over a dark substrate, consider a double-hit underbase: print LB020, flash, re-register and print the underbase again. This dramatically increases opacity and produces noticeably cleaner top color results.

⚠ Don’t Over-Flash the Underbase

Flash LB020 to dry-to-touch — not full cure. Over-flashing creates a fully cured white layer that top colors can’t adhere to properly, leading to delamination and poor wash fastness. A dry-to-touch surface is all you need before printing top colors.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What makes LB020 “ultra-soft” compared to a standard white plastisol?

LB020 is formulated with a softer plasticizer blend that produces a more flexible, lower-modulus film after cure. The result is a print that conforms to the fabric rather than sitting rigid on top of it — customers feel the fabric, not the ink. Standard whites often use higher pigment loads and stiffer plasticizers that produce a more plasticky feel, especially in larger coverage areas.

Can I use LB020 as an underbase on any dark shirt?

Yes for cotton and cotton-blend garments. For 100% polyester or high-poly blends, consider using the Inktek Gray Super Blocker instead — LB020 is a bright white formula, not a dye-migration blocker. On poly blends, dye migration under heat can push dye up through the white base and tint your top colors. The Gray Super Blocker is specifically formulated to block dye migration.

What mesh count should I use for the underbase?

86–110 mesh for standard underbase work — this deposits enough ink for full opacity. For high-detail underbases or simulated process printing, you can push to 130–160 mesh, though you may want to double-hit for complete coverage. The coarser the mesh, the heavier the deposit and the more opaque the underbase will be.

How do I know if my flash temperature is correct?

The underbase should be dry-to-touch — no wet or tacky feel when you press gently on the surface — but not fully gelled. If the surface is still soft when touched, flash longer. If the underbase looks slightly glossy or rubbery rather than matte, it’s approaching full gel, which is too far. An infrared surface temperature gun can help, but the touch test is the most reliable indicator.

Does LB020 need any additives or modifiers?

No — LB020 is ready to print straight from the container. Plastisol inks should not be thinned with solvents. If the ink is stiff from cold storage, bring it to room temperature (65–80°F) and stir thoroughly before printing. If you need to reduce viscosity slightly, use a compatible curable reducer at no more than the manufacturer’s recommended percentage — excessive addition can affect opacity and wash fastness.

How do I confirm the ink is fully cured?

Use a donut probe or thermocouple to verify 280°F internal ink temp — surface temperature guns measure surface temp, not internal ink temp, and are not accurate for cure verification. Do a stretch test: fully cured plastisol stretches without cracking or delaminating. For production runs, wash test (3–5 hot wash cycles) before shipping customer orders to confirm long-term durability.

Is LB020 compatible with all the other Inktek LB Series colors?

Yes — LB020 is part of the Inktek LB Series and is fully compatible with all 52 colors in the lineup. All LB Series inks cure at 280°F and are formulated to work together for multi-color jobs, wet-on-flash printing, and underbase applications.
