Description

Block It Cold. Print It Bright.

Dark garments are the toughest substrate in screen printing. Inktek Gray Super Blocker was built for exactly this fight — a neutral gray underbase that delivers maximum dye-migration resistance and true-tone color reproduction on every shirt in the run. Stop fighting your substrate. Start printing with confidence.

Why Gray Super Blocker?

Total Dye-Migration Block

Polyester fibers release dye under heat. Gray Super Blocker’s formula creates a barrier between the garment and your top colors — eliminating the pink or gray cast that ruins dark-shirt jobs.

Neutral Gray Base

Gray (not white) is the correct underbase for dark shirts. It absorbs less light and allows your top colors to read truer to proof — especially important for bright whites, pastels, and process-style prints.

Clean Flash Performance

Flashes quickly and completely. No ghosting on the platen, no wet-on-wet smearing. Lay down your underbase, hit the flash, and keep printing without slowing your press.

Consistent Printability

Smooth, buttery consistency holds its body on the screen without becoming soupy in a heated pressroom. Prints cleanly through 86 to 160 mesh — high detail to heavy coverage, same ink.

Available Sizes

  • QQuart (32 oz) — Ideal for shops running limited dark-shirt jobs or testing the ink for the first time
  • GGallon (128 oz) — The workhorse size for regular production printing on dark garments
  • 55-Gallon Pail — High-volume shops and contract printers who run black and dark shirts daily

How to Use Gray Super Blocker

Step 1 — Print Underbase

Print Gray Super Blocker as your first-down color through 86–110 mesh. Use a 70/90/70 durometer squeegee for a clean, even lay.

Step 2 — Flash Cure

Flash at 180–220°F surface temp until the ink is dry-to-touch. Don’t over-flash — you want good wet adhesion for your top colors.

Step 3 — Print Top Colors

Print your Inktek LB Series colors (or any compatible plastisol) wet-on-flash over the blocked underbase. Colors will pop exactly as intended.

Step 4 — Full Cure

Run through the conveyor dryer at 280°F internal ink temp. Check with a donut probe or wash-test strips to confirm full cure before shipping.

Gray vs. White Underbase — Which Should You Use?

Use Gray Super Blocker When…
  • Printing on black or very dark shirts
  • You need dye-migration resistance
  • Colors need to appear as close to PMS as possible
  • Printing brights, pastels, or whites over dark substrates
Use White Underbase When…
  • Printing on medium-tone garments (royal, red, forest)
  • Dye migration is not a concern (100% cotton)
  • Maximum brightness is the priority over color accuracy
  • Your customer spec requires a white base

Gray Super Blocker vs. Standard Underbase Inks

Cure Temperature 280°F 320°F Varies

⚠ Pro Tip — Poly Blends

On 50/50 and high-poly garments, use a two-hit underbase technique: print, flash, re-register and print the blocker a second time. This doubles your migration barrier and produces noticeably cleaner results on poly-heavy shirts.

⚠ Storage & Shelf Life

Store Gray Super Blocker in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight. Keep lids tightly sealed between runs. Properly stored plastisol has a 2-year shelf life from manufacture date — no refrigeration required.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why use gray instead of white as an underbase on dark shirts?

Gray absorbs less light than white, which allows your top colors to read truer to the original artwork. A white underbase can cause colors to appear brighter but sometimes shifts them toward “neon” — gray gives you more accurate, PMS-faithful results, especially for process-style multi-color prints on black garments.

Will Gray Super Blocker work on 100% polyester performance wear?

Yes. Gray Super Blocker is specifically formulated with dye-migration inhibitors to perform on polyester and high-poly blends. For best results on 100% poly, use a lower flash temperature to avoid heat-activating the dye before the ink sets. A two-hit underbase approach is also recommended on challenging poly garments.

Can I mix Gray Super Blocker with other Inktek LB Series inks?

Yes — Gray Super Blocker is fully compatible with the Inktek LB Series. However, mixing blocker ink with color inks will reduce its blocking performance. It’s best used as a standalone underbase layer rather than blended into your color inks.

What mesh should I use for printing Gray Super Blocker?

For a standard underbase application, 86–110 mesh works well — it deposits enough ink volume for full opacity without using excess product. If you’re printing a high-detail underbase (simulated process or photorealistic print), you can push to 130–160 mesh, though you may want to double-hit for complete coverage.

Does Gray Super Blocker require any additives or reducers?

No — Gray Super Blocker is ready to print straight from the container. Like all plastisols, it should not be thinned with solvents. If the ink is stiff from cold storage, bring it to room temperature and stir thoroughly. Avoid adding curable reducer unless specifically recommended by Inktek, as it may affect blocking performance.

How do I confirm the ink is fully cured?

Use a temperature probe (donut or thermocouple) to verify the internal ink temp reaches 280°F — surface temp alone isn’t reliable. You can also do a stretch test: a fully cured print stretches without cracking. For production runs, periodic wash tests (3–5 hot wash cycles) confirm long-term durability before shipping customer orders.

Does River City Supply ship same day?
