Why use AccuInk instead of Epson OEM ink for screen printing film output?
Epson OEM inks are formulated for color accuracy on photographic substrates — not for blocking UV light during screen exposure. Chromaline AccuInk is specifically engineered with UV-blocking technology to produce the densest possible black on inkjet film. Deeper density means faster emulsion hardening, sharper stencil edges after washout, and halftone dots that hold under printing pressure.
Can I use this system on a Mac?
The Epson T3170X printer is macOS-compatible, but FilmMaker v10 DTP+ RIP software must be installed on a Windows PC. The printer can be networked to a Mac so a designer or prepress operator can send files to the Windows RIP machine. A dedicated Windows computer (Win 7 SP1, 8, 10, or 11) is required for the RIP installation.
What print resolution does the T3170X produce for film positives?
The T3170X has a maximum resolution of 2400 × 1200 dpi with a minimum ink droplet size of 4 picoliters. Variable Droplet Technology allows the printhead to produce up to three different drop sizes per scan line — critical for fine halftone gradients. FilmMaker also supports InRIP separations, meaning spot and process color separations can be generated directly inside the RIP without a separate plugin.
How long does it take to receive the Chromaline T3170X Package?
The Epson T3170X printer is a non-stock item that drop ships directly from Epson. Lead time is determined by Epson’s current order queue and ship sequence, which is outside River City Supply’s control. The Chromaline consumables (AccuInk and AccuJet film) and FilmMaker software may ship separately. Contact us before ordering if you need an estimated ship date.
Is the Epson T3170X warranty handled by River City Supply?
No. The T3170X carries a standard 1-year Epson manufacturer’s warranty. All warranty service, claims, and support are handled directly through Epson America’s customer care team, not through River City Supply. Epson’s warranty includes phone support Monday through Friday and/or whole unit exchange at Epson’s discretion.
What technical support is included and how long does it last?
Every Chromaline T3170X package includes 6 months of free live technical support from CADlink’s North America-based team, covering FilmMaker v10 setup, density calibration, halftone configuration, and general workflow questions. After the initial 6-month period, ongoing FilmMaker support from CADlink is available for an additional cost.
Can this system produce film for simulated process and photorealistic halftone separations?
Yes. FilmMaker v10’s InRIP separation engine, Variable Dot Halftoning, and Jitter™ moiré suppression make the system fully capable of high-quality halftone film for simulated process, CMYK process, and specialty separation workflows.
