Description

GRÜNIG AUTOMATIC SCREEN COATING  |  GRUNIG.CH

The Coating Variable Stops Here

Every print defect that originates in your screen room starts with inconsistent coating. The Grünig G-COAT 406S delivers ±1 micron repeatability on every screen, every operator, every shift — so the rest of your workflow can perform the way it was designed to.

±1 Micron Repeatability

The G-COAT 406S achieves coating repeatability to ±1 micron — a spec that matters in laser-to-screen and CTS workflows where the imaging system is only as precise as the emulsion surface it’s working with. Stable construction, toothed belt drive, and precision sliding guides eliminate the mechanical variation that makes manual coating inherently unreliable.

Plug & Coat — Zero Learning Curve

Grünig’s “Plug & Coat” design means the G-COAT 406S is production-ready straight out of the box. Unpack it, connect compressed air and power, load your emulsion trough, and you’re coating. There’s no complex calibration, no specialized technician required, and no assembly beyond installing the included stand.

Dual-Sided Simultaneous Coating

Coat the squeegee side and print side of the screen in a single automated pass using the included G-COAT 401 patented coating trough. Two coating passes in the time it previously took one — and both sides are coated to the same precise thickness every time.

Fully Programmable Control Panel

Coating speed, number of layers, flow time, and frame profile height (25–100mm) are all programmable from the intuitive control panel. Save programs for each emulsion and mesh count combination you run — consistency that doesn’t depend on which operator is on shift.

Pneumatic Pressure Control

The pneumatic system controls both contact pressure between the trough and screen and trough tipping angle — two variables that are impossible to control consistently by hand. Consistent pressure means consistent emulsion transfer from trough to mesh, run after run.

Compact Benchtop Footprint

The G-COAT 406S is engineered for screen rooms that don’t have unlimited floor space. Its compact benchtop design with included stand fits into existing prepress layouts without a dedicated footprint. Lightweight enough that two people can relocate it within the shop when needed.

Why Coating Quality Determines Everything Downstream

The Manual Coating Problem

When emulsion is applied by hand, coating speed, angle, and pressure vary with every stroke, every operator, and every shift. The result is inconsistent emulsion thickness across screens and across the same screen — producing exposure failures, pinholes, premature stencil breakdown, and print defects that are diagnosed at press when they should have been prevented at prepress.

Consistent Coating = Consistent Everything

When emulsion thickness is controlled to ±1 micron, your exposure times become fixed and reliable. Your stencils hold up longer under aggressive inks. Your halftone dots reproduce the same way on screen 1 and screen 500. Consistent coating is the variable that makes every other part of the workflow predictable — and the G-COAT 406S is the machine that locks it in.

Own Your Quality. Not Your Operator.

With manual coating, screen quality is tied to the skill and consistency of whoever is on shift. With the G-COAT 406S, that expertise lives in the program — not the person. Any operator can run the machine and produce professional-grade coated screens. Lower training overhead, lower labor dependency, and consistent output regardless of who’s working that day.

⚠️ Essential for Computer-to-Screen & Laser-to-Screen Systems

If your shop runs any computer-to-screen or laser-to-screen imaging system, an automatic coater is not optional — it is a critical part of the workflow. These systems image exactly what is on the emulsion surface. Inconsistent coating produces inconsistent stencils, full stop. The G-COAT 406S is specifically recommended for use with the CTS and LTS systems listed below.

Recommended For Use With These CTS & LTS Systems

SAATI

LTS 8012 Laser-to-Screen System

Direct laser imaging + exposure — 128-laser array, up to 2540 DPI, single or dual screen. One of the most capable LTS systems available. Perfect emulsion coating is non-negotiable.

Works With Any Emulsion

The G-COAT 406S works with the emulsion of your choice — photopolymer, diazo, dual-cure, or capillary film. No proprietary formulations required. The 0.5mm and 1.0mm edge trough options let you control EOM (emulsion over mesh) for different applications — thinner builds for halftone work, thicker for high-opacity specialty inks.

Standard vs. XL Model

The standard G-COAT 406S handles screens up to 27.5″ × 39.4″ (700 × 1000mm) — covering all standard textile and graphics frame sizes. The optional XL model extends capacity to 39.4″ × 55″ (1000 × 1400mm) for large-format applications. Ask us which model fits your frame inventory.

Financing Available

Equipment financing available through our lending partners. The G-COAT 406S is one of the most accessible automatic coater price points available — and when bundled with a CTS or LTS system purchase, many shops structure monthly payments that are offset immediately by the reduction in screen remakes and consumable costs.

⚡ Installation Note

The G-COAT 406S requires a 110V outlet (or 230V — both supported) and compressed air at 58 PSI / 4 bar (approx. 21 ft³/h). Ships fully assembled. Stand installs in minutes. No specialized setup required — just plug in, connect the airline, and start coating.

💡 Pro Tip: Save a Program Per Emulsion

Spend 20 minutes dialing in and saving a coating program for each emulsion and mesh count you run. A dual-cure on 160 mesh needs different speed and layer settings than an SBQ photopolymer on 305 mesh. Once those programs are saved, any operator produces identical results — forever.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions — Grünig G-COAT 406S

Why should I buy the G-COAT 406S through River City Supply instead of directly from Grünig?

You’ll pay the same or less, hear back faster, and get more support. As an authorized Grünig distributor we have the same pricing as buying direct — and the ability to bundle the G-COAT with a CTS system, emulsions, or other screen room supplies for better overall value. Contact us and you reach a real person same day. Your full 1-year Grünig warranty is completely intact. And our team knows screen printing production — we can help you dial in coating programs for your specific emulsions and mesh counts, which is a support conversation that manufacturer tech lines rarely have the context for.

Is an automatic coater really necessary if I’m running a CTS or LTS system?

Yes — and strongly. Every CTS and laser-to-screen system we carry images exactly what is on the emulsion surface. The Saati LTS 8012, Chromaline LTS E70B, M&R i-Image, and Exile Spyder II are all precision imaging systems — and they will faithfully reproduce any coating inconsistency in your stencil. The G-COAT 406S eliminates that variable at the source.

What’s the difference between the 0.5mm and 1.0mm edge troughs?

The edge dimension refers to the coating trough’s contact edge — a smaller edge produces a thinner emulsion build, while a larger edge deposits more emulsion. The 0.5mm edge is typically used for halftone work and high mesh counts (180+) where a thinner, more precise EOM is needed. The 1.0mm edge suits lower mesh counts and higher-opacity applications like specialty or high-density inks. Both troughs are included with the G-COAT 406S so you can match the coating build to each job type.

What emulsions work with the G-COAT 406S?

All of them. The G-COAT 406S works with any photopolymer (SBQ), diazo, dual-cure emulsion, and capillary film. Grünig has no proprietary emulsion requirement. Continue using whatever you currently stock from Chromaline, Murakami, Saati, or any other manufacturer.

What does ±1 micron repeatability actually mean in practice?

It means that every screen coated with the same program will have essentially identical emulsion thickness — the variation from screen to screen is within one millionth of a meter. In practice, this means your exposure times stop drifting, your halftone dots reproduce identically across jobs, your stencils last consistently, and repeat orders look the same as the original run. It’s the difference between a screen room that firefights quality problems and one that prevents them.

How does the G-COAT 406S compare to the Saati ProCoat 25×36?

Both are excellent automatic coaters — we carry and recommend both. The Saati ProCoat 25×36 coats two standard textile screens simultaneously, making it ideal for shops that need to maximize coating throughput on standard frame sizes. The G-COAT 406S coats one screen at a time but with tighter precision specs (±1 micron) and more granular control over coating parameters — making it particularly well-suited for shops running CTS or LTS workflows where coating consistency is the highest priority. Not sure which fits your shop? Call us and we’ll help you decide.

Is financing available?

Yes. Equipment financing is available through our third-party lending partners. The G-COAT 406S is one of the most accessible automatic coater investments in the industry — and when bundled with a CTS or LTS system purchase on a single financing agreement, the combined monthly payment is often offset quickly by the reduction in screen remakes, consumable costs, and press downtime. Contact us for a quote and financing estimate.
