Murakami Emulsion Hardener Part B – Permanent Two-Part Stencil Hardener (Step 2)

Murakami

Murakami Emulsion Hardener Part B is the second and final step in Murakami’s two-part permanent emulsion hardening system. Used immediately after Part A has been applied and allowed to dwell, Part B penetrates and locks the emulsion structure to deliver permanent, extreme-durability stencil hardening for water-based and discharge screen printing. Part B must be used with Part A — it is not a standalone hardener. Sold separately for shops restocking Part B without needing a new complete kit.

Description

Step 2: The Final Lock in Murakami’s Permanent Hardening System.

Part A is reclaimable on its own. Part B is what permanently locks the emulsion — applied after Part A, it penetrates and chemically seals the stencil structure for maximum durability. Once Part B is applied, reclaiming becomes significantly harder. This product is sold separately for shops that need to restock Part B.

Key Features

🔒

Part B Is What Permanently Locks the Emulsion

Part A alone is reclaimable. Part B is the step that permanently locks the emulsion structure — creating maximum resistance to water, discharge inks, abrasion, and humidity. Once Part B is applied, reclaiming is significantly harder.

🔄

Available for Restock

Sold separately so shops that have already purchased the A&B Kit can restock just the component they need — without purchasing a full new kit when only Part B has run low.

💧

For Water-Based & Discharge Environments

Part of a system specifically engineered to withstand the penetrating moisture of water-based and discharge inks that can break down standard unhardened emulsions during long runs.

⚠️

Permanent — Reclaiming More Difficult

Part B is a permanent hardener component. The final hardened stencil will be significantly harder to reclaim. Use proper reclaim chemistry and reclaim promptly after printing.

How to Use Part B in the Two-Part System

1
Expose, Wash Out & Dry
Screen must be exposed, developed, blocked out, and fully dry before hardener application.
2
Apply Part A First
Using a clean lint-free cloth, soft brush, or sponge, apply a thin, even layer of hardener to both sides of the screen. Allow to air dry or cure in a 100°F hot box per Part A dwell time instructions.
3
Apply Part B to Both Sides
After Part A dwell time has elapsed, apply Part B evenly to both sides of the screen using a clean lint-free cloth, soft brush, or sponge, apply a thin, even layer of hardener to both sides of the screen. Ensure even, complete coverage.
4
Allow to Dry / Cure
Allow Part B to dry per manufacturer’s dwell time guidelines.
5
Print & Reclaim Promptly
Hardened stencil is ready for press. Reclaim promptly after printing using appropriate reclaim chemistry.

⚠️ Part B Cannot Be Used Alone

Part A alone is reclaimable. Part B is what permanently locks the emulsion — making reclaiming significantly harder. Part B must be used after Part A; it cannot be used alone. Using Part B without first applying Part A will not produce the intended hardening effect. If you need the complete starter system, the Murakami A&B Quart Kit includes both components.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can I use Part B without Part A?

No. Murakami Part B must be used in combination with Part A as Step 2 of the two-part hardening process. Part B alone will not provide the full hardening effect. If you need a complete starter kit, the Murakami A&B Quart Kit includes both parts.

Why would I order Part B separately instead of the A&B Kit?

Part B is available as a standalone product for shops that have already purchased the A&B kit and are running low on Part B specifically. In some workflows, Part B may be used up faster or in different quantities than Part A.

Is this a permanent hardener?

Yes. Part B is the second step in Murakami’s permanent hardening system. When used with Part A, it creates a permanent chemical reinforcement that significantly increases reclaim difficulty compared to untreated or reclaimably-hardened stencils.

What inks and emulsions is it designed for?

The A&B system is designed for water-based and discharge screen printing and is compatible with most photo, dual-cure, and diazo emulsions.

Does Part B require a curing step?

Follow Murakami’s application order and dwell times precisely. Each part should be applied to both sides of the screen using a clean scoop coater, then allowed to air dry or cure in a controlled environment per the manufacturer’s guidelines.
