AlbaChem® 1634 Citrus Screen Opener – Fast-Acting Ink Remover for Screen Printers

Albatross

AlbaChem® 1634 Citrus Screen Opener delivers the on-press screen clearing performance shops need with one important difference: it smells like citrus, not chemicals. Its citrus-based formula dissolves dried and fresh plastisol and other screen printing inks directly on the press in a few squeegee passes without stopping production. Emulsion safe, leaves no film, and won’t undermine stencil integrity. The 15 oz can gives you more opener per can than competing products — a smart buy for shops running it daily.

Description

AlbaChem® · Item #1634 · 15 oz Aerosol · Shop All Aerosols

Same On-Press Performance. Citrus Scent Instead of Harsh Solvent.

AlbaChem® 1634 Citrus Screen Opener does everything a professional screen opener should — clears clogged screens on-press without stopping production, works on plastisol and common inks fresh or dried, leaves no film, and is safe for photographic stencils and water-soluble hand-cut film — all while smelling like citrus instead of industrial solvent. For operators using screen opener throughout the day, that difference matters.

What’s Included

1AlbaChem® 1634 Citrus Screen Opener — 15 oz aerosol can
Available individually or by the case — 12 cans per case (16 lbs)
At 15 oz, the 1634 contains more product per can than 12–14 oz competitors

Key Performance Features

Citrus-Based Formula

Uses a d-limonene citrus solvent base that dissolves ink effectively while producing a clean, pleasant orange-citrus scent. For operators using screen opener multiple times per shift, a citrus aroma versus harsh aromatic petroleum is a real quality-of-life improvement.

On-Press — No Production Stop

Apply directly to the clogged screen area while still on press. Make a few squeegee passes and printing resumes. No registration break, no screen removal, no wasted prints.

Emulsion Safe

Formulated for use on photographic stencils and water-soluble hand-cut film. Dissolves ink in the mesh without softening or compromising the stencil during spot cleaning.

Leaves No Film

After clearing, the 1634 leaves no oily residue in the mesh. The print immediately following comes through clean and sharp — no ghosting, no smear, no citrus oil contaminating the ink.

15 oz — More Per Can

At 15 oz net weight, the 1634 contains more opener than competing 12–14 oz cans. Fewer re-orders and a lower effective cost per use for shops running it daily.

Works Fresh or Dried

Effective on plastisol and other common screen printing inks whether freshly deposited or partially dried in the mesh. Also useful for spot cleanup of ink from screen frames and press components.

Safety & Ventilation

PPE Required

Chemical-resistant gloves and safety glasses. Even with a pleasant scent, this is a solvent product — PPE is required.

Ventilation

Use in a well-ventilated area. Keep exhaust running during use.

Flammability

Flammable aerosol. Keep from open flames and all ignition sources. Do not puncture or incinerate.

Shipping

Ground only — cannot ship by air.

How to Use On-Press

Step 1 — Identify the Clog

Spot dropout or streaking in a specific area of the print — ink has dried in the mesh at that spot.

Step 2 — Normal Pass

Make a normal squeegee pass leaving the screen in the print position. Do not remove.

Step 3 — Spray

Hold can 6–10 inches from the clogged area. Spray directly. Hold a rag below if spraying overhead to protect the garment.

Step 4 — Clear & Resume

Make 2–3 more squeegee passes. Mesh clears. Resume printing normally — no lost registration, no residue.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions — AlbaChem® 1634 Citrus

Why choose the 1634 Citrus over standard screen openers?

The 1634 delivers the same on-press screen clearing performance as conventional openers — emulsion safe, residue-free, no production stop — with a citrus scent instead of harsh aromatic petroleum or solvent odor. For operators using screen opener repeatedly throughout the day, the scent difference meaningfully improves working conditions. It also comes in a larger 15 oz can than most competitors.

Can I use the 1634 without stopping the press?

Yes. Spray onto the clogged area while the screen is still on press. Make 2–3 more squeegee passes and the mesh clears. No registration break, no wasted prints, no downtime.

Is the 1634 Citrus safe for emulsions?

Yes. The 1634 is formulated for use on photographic stencils and water-soluble hand-cut film. It dissolves ink in the mesh without softening or compromising the stencil during spot cleaning.

Does the citrus formula leave oil residue in the mesh?

No. The 1634 Citrus Screen Opener leaves no film or residue in the mesh after clearing. The print immediately following the clear comes through clean and sharp — no citrus oil contaminating the ink or fogging the print.

What inks does the 1634 work on?

The 1634 is formulated primarily for plastisol ink and other common screen printing inks, both fresh and dried. It can also be used for general spot cleanup of ink from press components and screen frames. For shops also running UV or vinyl inks, the CCI Blast is specifically formulated for those ink types.

How far should I hold the can from the screen?

Hold the can 6 to 10 inches from the clogged area of the screen. Spray directly onto the problem spot and proceed with 2–3 squeegee passes. Hold a rag below the screen when spraying overhead to protect the garment on the platen below.

Can it be shipped by air?

No. The 1634 is a flammable aerosol and ships by ground only. Allow standard ground transit time when ordering.

How does the 1634 compare to the 1641 Clear Screen Opener?

Both are AlbaChem on-press screen openers that are emulsion-safe and leave no residue. The key difference is scent and can size. The 1634 uses a citrus base and comes in a larger 15 oz can. The 1641 Clear uses a water-free aromatic hydrocarbon base with a stronger solvent odor. Both perform comparably for plastisol and solvent inks.

How do I prevent nozzle clogging?

After each use, invert the can and spray until only clean air flows from the nozzle. This purges any residual solvent from the valve and keeps the nozzle clear between sessions.
