Pearl Binder 301 produces a pearlescent finish: a luminous, iridescent quality that shifts subtly with the viewing angle. It does not blast bright metallic reflections like Gold Shimmer 620 or Silver Shimmer 620. Instead, it creates a soft, diffused glow — delicate rainbow-like highlights that move across the print surface as the light changes. The effect is closer to the inside of a seashell than the surface of a chrome bumper. Elegant. Refined. Understated.

This is the special-effect ink for designs where subtlety is the strategy. Where the client does not want to shout metallic — they want to whisper luxury. Bridal boutique merchandise. The pearlescent particles in Pearl Binder 301 are fundamentally different from the metallic particles in the Shimmer 620 series. Metallic particles are opaque reflectors — they bounce light in a single metallic tone. Pearlescent particles are translucent light-refracting structures — they split light into its component wavelengths and create a soft, multi-toned iridescence. The result is a print that looks alive — subtly shifting from warm to cool highlights as you move around it.

And like every Matsui water-based ink, it delivers an ultra-soft hand feel that metallic plastisol inks cannot approach. The pearlescent area feels like part of the garment, not a stiff coating sitting on top of it.

Two Modes — Standalone Pearl or Custom Colored Pearl

Mode 1: Standalone Pearl

Open the container and print. Pearl Binder 301 produces a luminous, white-pearl iridescent finish directly on the garment. On light garments the effect is a subtle, ethereal glow. On dark garments, print over a white underbase for a more visible opalescent contrast. No mixing required.

Mode 2: Tinted Custom Pearl Colors

Add up to 2% Matsui Neo Pigments to shift the pearl base into colored iridescent tones.

Important: Tinting maximum is 2%. Pearl Binder 301 is a delicate effect. Higher pigment percentages will overwhelm the pearlescent particles and produce a standard tinted ink rather than a colored pearl. A trace amount shifts the tone while preserving the iridescence.

The result is not a color with pearl in it. It is pearl with a hint of color. The pearlescent effect remains dominant while the pigment gently shifts the tone.

What is the difference between Pearl Binder 301 and the Shimmer 620 inks?

They create completely different effects. Pearl Binder 301 is pearlescent and iridescent, with soft, diffused, color-shifting light play that changes with viewing angle. Gold Shimmer 620 and Silver Shimmer 620 are metallic, with bright, direct, single-tone reflections. Pearl whispers luxury. Shimmer shouts metallic. Both are beautiful, just in different ways.

Can I tint Pearl Binder 301 with Neo Pigments?

Yes, but only up to 2%. Pearl is a delicate effect. Higher pigment percentages overwhelm the pearlescent particles and reduce the iridescence. A trace amount of Neo Pigment can shift the tone toward pink pearl, blue pearl, or lavender pearl while preserving the color-shifting pearl effect.

Why is the tinting maximum only 2% instead of 5% or 15%?

Pearlescent particles are translucent light-refracting structures that create iridescence by splitting light. Too much pigment coats and obscures those particles, turning the effect from iridescent pearl into a tinted ink with some leftover sheen. At 2% or below, the pigment adds tonal direction while the pearl effect remains dominant.

What mesh count should I use?

Up to 110/inch (43/cm). Lower mesh deposits more pearlescent particles for a more visible effect. Do not exceed 110 mesh, because finer openings can filter out the pearlescent particles.

Can I print Pearl Binder 301 on dark garments?

Yes, but print a white underbase first, flash it, then print Pearl Binder 301 on top. The white gives the pearl a reflective foundation so it stays visible against the dark fabric. Without a white underbase, the effect can get lost into the garment color.

Can I use Pearl Binder 301 as an iridescent overcoat over a colored design?

Yes. Print your standard Matsui color design, flash it, then print Pearl Binder 301 over the top. The translucent pearl layer adds an iridescent overcoat to the color underneath, giving it a shimmering, opalescent quality.

What additives should I use with Pearl Binder 301?
