Matsui Glow Blue ECBR Pigment | Super-Concentrated Fluorescent Blue Pigment for Neon Screen Printing — Mix with Any Matsui Water-Based, Discharge, or Special Effects Base for Electric Fluorescent Blue Prints
Matsui
Matsui Glow Blue ECBR is a super-concentrated fluorescent blue pigment from the Matsui Glow Pigment system — one of 8 fluorescent/neon pigments designed for creating vivid, eye-catching neon colors in water-based screen printing. ⚠️ THESE ARE FLUORESCENT PIGMENTS — THEY DO NOT GLOW IN THE DARK. “Glow” refers to the intense fluorescent vibrancy under normal and UV lighting, not phosphorescent glow-in-the-dark properties. ⚠️ PIGMENT ONLY — must be mixed with a Matsui base before printing. By itself, it will NOT adhere to fabric. Glow Pigments can be mixed at up to 20% concentration into Matsui bases — higher than Neo Pigments (10-15%) — for maximum fluorescent intensity. Compatible with ALL Matsui printing bases and can also be blended with Neo Pigments for custom fluorescent-tinted shades. Use the free Matsui CMS Color Matching Software for Pantone® formulas. Prints through very high mesh counts (up to 305+). Cure at 320°F (160°C) for 2.5-3 minutes. OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified. CPSIA and HR4040 compliant. PVC-free, phthalate-free, heavy metal-free, formaldehyde-free. Exceptionally soft hand feel.
Price range: $34.99 through $119.99
Description
⚠️ IMPORTANT: Fluorescent — NOT Glow-in-the-Dark
Matsui Glow Pigments DO NOT glow in the dark. The name “Glow” refers to the intense fluorescent vibrancy these pigments produce under normal daylight and UV/blacklight conditions — not phosphorescent glow-in-the-dark properties. These are neon/fluorescent pigments that create electric, high-visibility colors that appear to “glow” with vibrancy compared to standard pigments. Under UV blacklight, fluorescent prints will appear even more vivid. But when the lights go out, the print does not emit light.
Glow Blue ECBR — Super-Concentrated Fluorescent Blue
Glow Blue ECBR is not an ink. It is a super-concentrated fluorescent blue pigment that must be mixed into a Matsui base to create printable ink.
Where standard Neo Blue MB produces a solid, opaque blue, Glow Blue ECBR produces an electric, high-visibility fluorescent blue that jumps off the garment. The fluorescent effect is most dramatic on white and light-colored garments where the base fabric reflects light back through the fluorescent pigment. On dark garments, print over a white underbase for maximum neon impact.
Mix Glow Blue ECBR into a discharge base for fluorescent blue on dark cotton. Mix it into an acrylic clear base for electric neon blue on light garments. Blend it with Neo Pigments to create fluorescent-tinted custom shades — a small amount of Glow Blue added to a standard Neo color formula shifts it toward a brighter, more neon appearance.
⚠️ Pigment Only — Must Be Mixed with a Base
Glow Blue ECBR will NOT adhere to fabric by itself. It must be mixed into a Matsui base before printing. The base acts as the binder that carries the pigment to the fabric surface and locks it in during curing. Without a base, the pigment will wash off.
Mixing ratio: Up to 20% pigment by weight into the base. Glow Pigments allow a higher concentration than Neo Pigments (which max at 10-15%). Higher pigment loads create more intense fluorescent effect. Start at 15% and increase to 20% for maximum neon intensity.
Pantone® color matching: Use the free Matsui CMS Color Matching Software for Pantone® formulas that include Glow Pigments.
Blending with Neo Pigments: YES — Glow Pigments can be mixed with Neo Pigments. Add a small percentage of Glow Blue to a standard Neo color formula to shift it toward a brighter, more fluorescent appearance. This is how you create custom fluorescent-tinted Pantone shades.

Blocker Escalation — Which Blocker, When?
The blocker prints FIRST, directly on the garment, UNDER the white underbase. It prevents garment dye from migrating up through the white and into your color layer during curing. Three levels of blocking strength:
Level 1 — Under Base Blocker Gray: Standard dye migration on dark cotton garments. The default starting point.
Level 2 — Under Base Blocker Black LG: Stronger blocking for polyester, poly-blends, and garments with aggressive dye migration that Gray cannot contain.
Level 3 — Kombat Blocker: Most aggressive. Specifically for sublimation-printed polyester where sublimation dyes re-activate at cure temperatures.
No blocker needed: Light garments (no dark dye to migrate) and discharge printing (discharge chemistry removes the garment dye instead of blocking it).
Always test — 48-hour rule: Print a test garment, cure it fully, then let it sit for 48 hours at room temperature. If garment dye bleeds through the white underbase after 48 hours, escalate to the next blocker level.
How to Choose the Right Base for Your Fluorescent Blue
Maximum neon on white/light shirts: 301C Clear or EasyPrint Clear + Glow Blue ECBR (15-20%). White fabric reflects light through the fluorescent pigment for maximum neon pop.
Fluorescent blue on dark cotton: Brite Discharge Base + Glow Blue ECBR + Discharge Activator. Neon blue embedded in cotton fibers with ultra-soft hand.
One fluorescent mix for lights and darks: 301DM Base + Glow Blue ECBR.
Fluorescent blue on stretch/activewear: Stretch Clear 301 + Glow Blue ECBR. High-vis athletic prints.
Fluorescent blue on nylon/polyester: Soft-Tex Base 350 + Glow Blue ECBR.
Fluorescent metallic blue: Silver Shimmer 620 + Glow Blue ECBR (up to 5%). Neon blue with metallic shimmer.
Toned-down neon / fluorescent-tinted blue: Blend Glow Blue ECBR with Neo Blue MB in any base. The Neo Pigment provides the base color, the Glow Pigment adds fluorescent intensity. Adjust the Glow-to-Neo ratio to control how neon the final color appears.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Does Glow Blue ECBR glow in the dark?
⚠️ NO. Despite the name “Glow,” this is a FLUORESCENT pigment, not a phosphorescent glow-in-the-dark pigment. It produces intense, high-visibility neon blue under normal daylight and UV/blacklight conditions. It does NOT emit light in the dark. The name refers to the electric fluorescent vibrancy that appears to “glow” compared to standard pigments.
Can I print Glow Blue ECBR by itself?
⚠️ NO. Glow Blue ECBR is a pigment concentrate only. It must be mixed with a Matsui base before printing. Without a base, the pigment will not adhere to fabric.
How much pigment do I add?
Up to 20% by weight for most bases — higher than Neo Pigments (10-15%). For discharge bases, up to 15%. Special effects bases have lower maximums (Pearl Binder: max 2%, Shimmer: max 5%). Start at 15% and increase for more neon intensity.
Can I mix Glow Pigments with Neo Pigments?
Yes — Glow Pigments and Neo Pigments can be blended together in the same base. Add a small amount of Glow Blue to a standard Neo color formula to shift it toward a brighter, more fluorescent appearance. This is how you create custom fluorescent-tinted Pantone shades.
Which base gives the most fluorescent impact?
301C Clear or EasyPrint Clear on white or light-colored garments. White fabric reflects light back through the fluorescent pigment, maximizing the neon effect. On dark garments, print over a white underbase for best results.
Can I use it with discharge bases?
Yes — Glow Pigments are compatible with all Matsui discharge bases including Brite Discharge Base, HM Discharge Base, and 301DM Base. Discharge activator required for dark garment applications. 100% cotton only for discharge mode.
Do I need a blocker on dark garments?
If printing on dark garments with a water-based (non-discharge) base, yes — use Gray Blocker for dark cotton, Black LG Blocker for polyester/blends, or Kombat Blocker for sublimation-printed polyester. If using discharge base on dark cotton, NO blocker is needed.
Is it safe for children’s garments?
Yes. OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified, CPSIA and HR4040 compliant. Meets all RSLs for major brands.
Where do I find Pantone® color formulas?
Download the free Matsui CMS Color Matching Software. CMS includes Glow Pigment formulas alongside Neo Pigment formulas.
