Directions For Use

Using River City Foil Heat Transfer Vinyl is a simple process that can add a touch of metallic brilliance to your creative projects. Follow these step-by-step directions to guide you through application.

Materials You’ll Need
River City Foil Heat Transfer Vinyl · cutting machine (with a compatible blade) · weeding tool · heat press or iron · Teflon or parchment paper · garment or substrate for application
Step 1: Design and Cut
Create your design in a design-software program. Make sure it is the desired size and is mirrored (flipped horizontally), since you apply it face-down. Load the vinyl into your cutting machine with the shiny (foil) side down and the adhesive side facing up. Set your machine to the recommended setting for the vinyl (a standard vinyl or heat-transfer-vinyl setting is typically suitable) and cut — the machine cuts through the vinyl but leaves the carrier sheet intact.
Step 2: Weeding
Carefully weed away the excess vinyl with a weeding tool. Your design should remain on the carrier sheet, with only the parts you want to transfer still attached.
Step 3: Heat Press Application
Preheat your press to the recommended temperature for River City Foil HTV, typically around 305°F (150°C). Place the garment on the press and smooth out wrinkles. Position your weeded design (still on the carrier) with the foil side facing up and align it. Cover with Teflon or parchment paper, then press with medium pressure for about 10–15 seconds. Adjust pressure and time for your specific press and vinyl.
Step 4: Cooling and Peeling
Lift the press and remove the Teflon/parchment. Let the garment cool for a few seconds (moving it to a cooler surface speeds this up). Once cooled, gently peel away the carrier sheet, leaving the metallic foil design on the garment.
Step 5: Final Touches
For a lasting bond, place a Teflon sheet or parchment over the applied design and press an additional 2–3 seconds. Wait at least 24 hours before washing; wash inside out with mild detergent, and avoid bleach or harsh chemicals.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Gold Foil HTV – FAQ

Is Gold Foil HTV Siser vinyl?
No — this is River City’s own house-brand foil HTV. It delivers the same brilliant metallic shine at a more budget-friendly price, great when you go through a lot of specialty vinyl.
Do I need special foil and adhesive?
No. Unlike true heat-transfer foil (a foil sheet over a separate adhesive), this is a self-contained metallic HTV — cut, weed, press and peel.
What machines can cut it?
Any craft cutter or plotter — Cricut, Silhouette, Brother, Roland, Graphtec and more — using standard HTV settings. Mirror your design and cut shiny side down. See the cutter-settings table on the description.
What press settings should I use?
By heat press: cover with a cover sheet, preheat the garment 2–3 s, then press at 275°F/135°C, medium pressure, 10–15 s, warm peel. By iron: Cotton/Linen setting, firm pressure, 10–15 s per section. Always test first.
What can I put Gold on?
Cotton, cotton blends and polyester — shirts, tote bags, hats, onesies and more. Anything you’d normally decorate with HTV and want to add serious shine to.
Can I layer it with regular HTV?
Yes — pair Gold foil accents with solid heat transfer vinyl for multi-layer designs. Press per the top layer and use a cover sheet to protect the shine.
How do I care for it?
Wait at least 24 hours before the first wash. Turn the garment inside out, use a mild detergent, and avoid bleach or harsh chemicals.
