Description
Presto 6171 — The Sign Shop’s Everyday Application Tape
Presto Tape 6171 is an economically priced, embossed clear polypropylene film with a medium-tack acrylic adhesive, engineered for the clean pick-up and transfer of cut vinyl lettering and printed graphics. It goes down wrinkle-free, leaves no residue or oil, and is color-coded for fast tack-level identification.
As an all-purpose transfer tape, the 6171 covers the majority of sign-making jobs and is excellent for use with digital and inkjet graphics — making it the best film choice for most sign shops. This roll is 24″ wide × 100 yards.
Medium Tack, Just Right
Picks up vinyl reliably without over-gripping, then releases cleanly onto your substrate — the balanced grip most jobs want.
Embossed Film Surface
The textured film lets trapped air escape, so you can squeegee out bubbles for a smooth, wrinkle-free lay-down.
All-Purpose Performance
Handles the majority of calendered and cast vinyl jobs — the best film choice for most sign shop applications.
Digital & Inkjet Friendly
Transfers cut vinyl and printed/inkjet graphics cleanly, with no residue or oil left behind.
What’s Included
Pro Tip — Bubble-Free Transfers
Squeegee the tape firmly over your cut, weeded vinyl, then peel the liner back at a low angle. The embossed surface pushes trapped air out as you go, so graphics transfer flat and wrinkle-free.
Why Sign Shops Choose 6171
Why Medium Tack?
Balanced grip that lifts most vinyls without tearing fine detail or leaving adhesive behind.
Embossed Advantage
Air-egress texture means fewer bubbles and faster, easier application.
Built for Your Workflow
Works across cut vinyl, digital and inkjet prints — the everyday workhorse tape.
Application in 4 Steps
1. Cut and weed your vinyl design.
2. Lay the 6171 over the design and squeegee firmly.
3. Flip and remove the vinyl backing.
4. Position on your substrate, squeegee, and peel the tape away at a sharp angle.
Tack Level Guide
Low tack — delicate or small films, easy release.
Medium tack (6171) — the all-purpose choice for most calendered and cast vinyl.
High tack — very small, intricate lettering or hard-to-lift films.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Frequently Asked Questions
What is application (transfer) tape used for?
Application tape — also called transfer tape — lifts your cut or printed vinyl off its paper liner and lets you position it accurately on the final surface, keeping letters and elements perfectly spaced.
What does “medium tack” mean, and when should I use it?
Medium tack is a moderate adhesive grip — strong enough to lift most calendered and cast vinyls cleanly, but gentle enough to release without distorting the design. It’s the all-purpose choice for the majority of sign jobs.
What size is this roll?
This roll is 24 inches wide by 100 yards (300 feet) long.
Can I use 6171 with digital or inkjet prints?
Yes. The 6171 is excellent for transferring digital and inkjet graphics, and the clear embossed film lets you see exactly where you’re placing the print.
Will it leave residue on my graphics?
No. The 6171 lays down wrinkle-free and leaves no residue or oil behind.
What tapes is the 6171 comparable to?
The 6171 is comparable to R-Tape AT-60, Main Tape GXF-100, and ABI 1310.
Why choose embossed film over paper tape?
The film is transparent so you can see placement, and the embossed surface lets trapped air escape — giving you smoother, more bubble-free transfers than paper tape.
