Step-by-Step Printing Workflow

1Garment Selection
Use 100% reactive-dyed dischargeable cotton only. Black, navy, and dark colors work best. Polyester, blends, and pigment-dyed garments will NOT discharge. Popular blanks that discharge well: Bella+Canvas 3001, Next Level 3600, American Apparel 2001 — but always test each dye lot.
2Screen Preparation
Use water-resistant emulsion — SBQ-based or dual-cure recommended. Standard diazo-only emulsions can break down on long water-based runs. Mesh: 110–180/inch. Lower mesh (110–140) = heavier deposit = stronger glow. Finer mesh (160–180) for detailed art but reduced glow intensity. Avoid mesh finer than 180.
3Activate the Ink
Weigh Allureglow Discharge Agent at 4–5% by weight of total ink. Mix thoroughly using a high-speed drill with a Type 2 Dispersion Blade — hand-mixing is NOT adequate and causes uneven activation and inconsistent glow. Only activate what you will use within 8 hours.
4Rest Period
Allow activated ink to rest 20–30 minutes before printing. This lets discharge chemistry integrate with the ink base. Keep container covered to prevent evaporation. Stir briefly again immediately before loading the screen.
5Printing
Heavy flood coat + double squeegee pass at moderate-to-heavy pressure. Use a 70–80 durometer squeegee at 45°. A thick, even ink deposit is critical for maximum glow intensity. Mist the screen with water during extended pauses to maintain ink moisture.
6Pre-Cure Misting
Lightly mist the printed area with water before placing in the dryer. This helps the discharge agent react fully during curing, improves dye removal quality, and reduces scorching risk on lighter garments.
7Curing
Cure in a forced-air conveyor dryer at 340°F (170°C) for 2–3 minutes. ⚠️ Flash dryers and heat guns alone are NOT sufficient — discharge requires sustained, even heat to complete. Test dryer temperature with a donut probe before production. Run a wash test on cured samples before full production.
8Glow Testing
Charge the finished print: ~10 minutes in direct sunlight or ~30 minutes under standard artificial light. View in complete darkness — allow eyes to adjust. Glow is most intense immediately after charging and remains visible for 30–60+ minutes depending on deposit thickness and conditions.
9Cleanup
Clean screens immediately with soap and warm water. Do not allow activated ink to dry on the mesh. Dispose of dry ink residue per federal, state, and local regulations. Do not pour wet ink down drains.
